yup, the info was released not too long before the 1st episode aired.

weird that the first season would only be 1 cour and the second 2 cours....

different studios, but at least according to MAL the production committee is made up of pretty much the same folks between S1 and S2. there was 2 years and around 6 months in-between S1 starting & S2 starting. which is a pretty long production cycle for a 12-episode season... so perhaps JC Staff was able to pick up this show not long after S1 ended back in SEP '21, and just got the greenlight to make it a 25-episode consecutive cour project.

another direction to look at this would be... what was JC Staff up to in the 'Fall' of 2021? they had finished off: S1 of 'The Duke of Death and His Maid', the movie 'Sing a Bit of Harmony', S2 of 'The Way of the Househusband', S1P1 of 'How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom' and released that December the movie 'Aria the Benedizione'. so that part of '21 JC was pretty damn busy. then early in '22 they put out: 'The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest', S1P2 of 'How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom', 'Requiem of the Rose King'. then in Spring '22 was 'The Executioner and Her Way of Life'...

so, picking up 'Moonlit Fantasy' for a 20+ episode project was a bit... risky for JC Staff right in that window of '21 into '22. they had multiple projects ending their TV/Theater runs and other projects getting polished and shined up for release. i personally think juggling the staff and teams and getting everybody lined up for a long-haul 2-season show right then and there? it had to be a seriously daunting task even for a studio as long-lived and experienced as JC.
