Now the story will continue in the manga and we will have to wait years for another season. This reminds me of Made in Abyss (how the adaptation is already announced even though there are not enough chapters)
For now I hope Bones focues on MHA. Or maybe the studio that made BSD (I heard that studios can be separated to work on different series at the same time) will work on something else.

Nope, his ability was never revealed so he might still be alive somehow.
It's generally believed that his ability requires physical touch to activate, like how he killed some soldier that were trying to surround him at the end of season 3. I remember reading a theory that his ability is like some sort of "judgement", as in how much damage it deals to you is directly proportional to you sins or your guilt.
