With Sekiro and Tsushima still doing great, I'd pine for something else, preferably something that hasn't been done before. Tzarist Russia, Brazil, something along those lines

Buck Swaggler • 3 years ago

+1 for Japan

pestulio07 • 3 years ago

+1

pestulio07 • 3 years ago

Fine, do Brazil, but can we PLEASE just get Japan already first? X/

Charlie Milroy • 3 years ago

If for no other reason than to shut up people like us.

Stuart Wilson • 3 years ago

Anywhere in the southern hemisphere would be awesome. I think the furthest south we've been was Mexico in Liberation (am I the only person that loved that entry?).

I'd play a Japan set entry, but as people have said, Ghost of Tsushima is pretty fresh in my memory. It'd be difficult to top that game...

Monferno • 3 years ago

Not at all, loved New Orleans and Mexico. Although I suppose technically the Caribbean is very south in AC4

I'm still set on a Japan AC for several reasons regardless of the success of GoT

Stuart Wilson • 3 years ago

Oh good point. My geography skills need improvement!

Monferno • 3 years ago

Not an issue at all

Indeed most of the global south has not really been a setting in AC games and that needs to be rectified

Ghosts of Tsushima aside I’ve heard this said many many times but I still long for AC to be set in Japan. But not necessarily during the feudal era, there are many eras it could go to. The Heian period, the Tokugawa Shogunate, the Meiji era, and yes playing as a ninja Assassins during the Warring states period would indeed be awesome

Stuart Wilson • 3 years ago

Yeah there's no doubt it'll happen eventually. Considering Ubisoft are often developing AC games in parallel, it wonder if they already started on Japan then pushed it back because of GoT.

Here's a leftfield period on my wishlist: prohibition era gangsters!

Monferno • 3 years ago

I honestly cannot say for sure. Perhaps they waited for the next gen. I have no idea. I just hope they do it sooner rather then later

And I was never one o those fans initially that wanted Japan. I actually was more focused on other stuff, but after 3 RPG more warrior type games I long for a return to traditional stealth that would be perfect for a Japanese ninja AC

I once saw a well drawn picture of that very scenario you said, I wouldn't be opposed to such a thing

Personally I would love an AC set in Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age, or perhaps The Mali Empire in Africa during the time of Mansa Musa. Perhaps one of the Mesoamerican kingdoms like the Aztecs or the Incas

Stuart Wilson • 3 years ago

Mansa Musa era was one I was hoping for too!

Monferno • 3 years ago

My god I would love that, join him on his pilgrimage to Mecca and protect him, help hand out gold XD

Stuart Wilson • 3 years ago

I wouldn't be surprised if they seriously considered it the moment a certain Marvel film hit big...

HitTheClicks • 3 years ago

hear hear

RME33 • 3 years ago

Ghosts of Tsushima has already tackled Japan. Let's go somewhere other games aren't going. I'm personally pulling for the Warring States period of Chinese history. Personally, I can't understand how that hasn't happened yet. It seems perfect for the game's current format.

I'd definitely take Brazil, though.

Commander Wyro • 3 years ago

god id love a AC game during the Three kingdom time period. feel like japan would be too cliché

Charlie Milroy • 3 years ago

Japan would be perfect, but there are a lot of other great historical settings.

Commander Wyro • 3 years ago

i feel as though that ship sailed a long time ago. there are already like 5 feudal japan era games that worked a lot better than AC. i still think itd be cool but id like to see that later on when the engine is perfect. as we kind of got a downgrade after unity came out. hardly any parkour system anymore. that all my interest lies in now. lot of settings but if the engine gets boring then whats the point really. wish we could get some sort of hybrid between unity and valhalls engine

Charlie Milroy • 3 years ago

The real weakness of the recent AC games is that you can travel great distances with no pain at all, and thus you are totally disincentivized to get to know a specific area and you don't really feel grounded in the world. A game set in feudal Japan would need to either be in one or multiple big cities.
It would really set a cat amongst the pigeons if they made a game set in Meiji era Japan. That would be a really interesting setting. The problem being that the further forward in history that they get the more complex the cities have to be.

Johnnie White Walker • 3 years ago

I love the possibilities of Incas, Aztecs, and the Spanish Conquistadors angle.
Whether that's Mexico or other places in South America, that could be epic.

Yuri Hyuga • 3 years ago

I honestly don't remember any other open world game has Brazil as a setting, I'll welcome it.

GBarsotini • 3 years ago

Brazil as a country is not considered old, "only" 521 years, but has a very rich history,
going through Portuguese, Dutch invasions, monarchy .. and I think it would be really cool if the assassin were a bandeirante, adventurers from the interior of Brazil, beggining of the XVI century, more precisely from São Paulo, who explored the interior of the country, seeking wealth, such as gold, and delimiting almost the entire length of the country as a consequence. As a Brazilian, I believe the country would make an excellent game, and I hope it really happens. The countries colonized by Spain could be a DLC, for example, going to Machu Pichu, or other places.

Alvarez Blanco • 3 years ago

Rich in history, yes, I don't desagree. A work of fiction set in Brazil would also be cool, can't argue wirh that either. I just couldn't help but point out the irony of a game in witch you play the role of an assassin in one of the most dengerous countries in the world where people's been murdered left and right on a daily basis.

Alvarez Blanco • 3 years ago

The creed of assassins is indeed big there!
Coming from a Brazillian who made it out...

Fred Quadros • 3 years ago

As an brazilian myself, I would be honored.

HC • 3 years ago

I would LOVE to see Brazil as a setting. Would also love Argentina/Buenos Aires area. Including South America would be awesome.

Monferno • 3 years ago

Theres many cities like Rio or Buenos Aires that could make for potential fascinating AC settings, perhaps Georgetown, Santiago, Montevideo, Lima, Quito, Caracas or La Paz even ^^

HC • 3 years ago

Agree! 🙌🙌

Autumn Sevier • 3 years ago

personally i just want a Smaller game .. they've gotten too big and bloated. also maybe changing up the combat again would be a good idea since its getting old fast too . idk i liked the rhythmic style of the original combat system better.

HitTheClicks • 3 years ago

Feel exactly the same! I started Origins back in June and, damn... I'm still working on it! 100+ hour campaign just means I'm gonna be sitting on my ass for that long, I don't need a reminder of how sedentary my life is!

Sure, Brazil would be an excellent scenario, but ... Incas are Andean people (Pacific side of South America, Brazilian coast is the Atlantic side). And Spanish conquerors hardly made any progress in our territory. There are many Brazilian indigenous nations, but the main cultural root is Tupi-Guarani (without an Inca influence). And the main european colonizers are the portuguese conquerors. There are many amazing contexts in brazilian history that a game could take place, but it certainly would not have Incas, and Spaniards would be rare.

RME33 • 3 years ago

I think he was just throwing out ideas, and I'm sure he either knows this or would research it. Most likely it would be a little fictionalized, of course, and include some forays into surrounding areas where the Spanish and Incas did have impact, or perhaps go there in the DLC, much Valhalla is using the DLC to ship us to Ireland.

Grant Melville • 3 years ago

Brazil would be great in my opinion - around the time of the Spanish conquests preferably. And please, please, please Ubisoft, for pity's sake start making Assassin's Creed games with an actual Assassin as a protagonist! Or a Hidden One, if you must. Valhalla was fine, but it's kinda hard to get behind the character when they have so poor a motivation for hunting Templars - sorry, Order of the Ancients geezers - yet they go to a great deal of trouble to do it anyway, and do it 100 times better than the actual Hidden Ones. Why, people, why?!

Igor Aleixo • 3 years ago

Portuguese* conquerors, not spanish.

Justin Walters • 3 years ago

I disagree completely. They should have it set in ancient Mayan culture before the Spanish invasion, because the indigenous people were practically living in a post apocalypse by the time the Spanish showed up. It would be so much more interesting to see Mayan temples at their prime. I dont even care about the Assassin's vs Templar anymore, its so played out. The only interesting thing aside from the historical and mythological stuff in AC games is the Isu, the whole Assassin Templar war is just old now anyway. Give me more weird mythological stuff, let us talk to gods and fight monsters.

Holy_Trilogy • 3 years ago

I was campaigning for Japan for years, but
I think Ghost of Tsushima came out last year and did the whole samurai aesthetic better than Ubisoft could ever manage. Valhalla was good, but so bloated it got boring. I'm not too concerned about the next setting- just that it isn't longer than it should be.

wygrif • 3 years ago

Yeah any AC Japan would be a step down in production values from Ghost

Adam Robert Cockerill • 3 years ago

How about Assassin Ninja's?

Shuriken's instead of Throwing knives, Sai's and Nunchucks?

backspacer • 3 years ago

I'm still hoping for Russia but it was already featured in one of the comics and Chronicles games. Not sure if that would make it a pass for the main series.

BigDamnGyro • 3 years ago

I was going to say the end of Czarist Russia and the beginning of the Bolshevik/Menshevik conflict would be quite interesting.

Monferno • 3 years ago

Yep that was indeed covered, you played Nikolai Orelov during the Bolshevik revolution, Lenin asks you to take out the Romanovs actually. He also after moving to America nearly gets caught up in the Palmer Raids

BigDamnGyro • 3 years ago

Oh legit?! Which game was that in? I'm actually just getting started with the franchise. Picked up Odyssey on the cheap.

Monferno • 3 years ago

Brazil would be a fascinating setting, but I wonder what time period they would choose for it I wonder. I do indeed want more South American settings, perhaps one of the Meso American cultures like the Incan empire

Justin Walters • 3 years ago

Honetly, if the next AC game doesn't take place in ancient mesoamerica, I won't play it. I've been begging for an ancient Maya or Aztec game forever, and no one ever makes a decent one. The best we got is, what, Tomb Raider? Where you explore ruins as they are now? And with the deeper focus on mythology in the past few games would really shine in Maya or Aztec settings. Hell, scrap the Conquistadors entirely and just focus on pre-spanish Maya. Let us see the massive cities in their prime. Its all practically unknown history so they have an almost blank canvas for whatever they want.

Justin Walters • 3 years ago

Honestly, I say instead of Brazil, do Central America, but thats just me. I may be biased because of my heritage, but still.

hawk222 • 3 years ago

I'm surprised there were no "you're going to Brazil" memes in this comment section. Guess that one died out pretty quickly.

toadbonnetbee • 3 years ago

india pls

Monferno • 3 years ago

There was AC Chronicles India during the time of the British conquest

toadbonnetbee • 3 years ago

yeah but i think a odyssey style ver would be rlly cool
