Let's fight mdfkr where is The Last of Us 2? Just kidding people please don't start a lynching.
Didn't play it
It was actually pretty pretty good. Not my personal Game of The Year (it was Ghost of Tsushima for me) but definitely the runner up.
Didn't play Doom but my top 4 is the same
I think this is a big improvement. I hope you keep all your top 10 moments, dorks, etc lists. Although i feel this year more than ever its really hard to make that moments list without spoilers
Top 10 moments is just asking for spoilers, and people at these gaming outlets are living in a different world from me and I'd imagine most gamers. Most gamers don't have the time to play all the top games as they come out and actually are more enticed sometimes by games that were released in years past.
I didn't play many titles that released this year unfortunately but the ones I did play were pretty good
1. Cyberpunk 2077 (the bugs have been relatively tame for me but then again I'm on PC)
2. Hades
3. Wasteland 3
4. Doom Eternal
5. Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access
How’s baldurs gate ?! Been excited for that
It's still early access but the foundation there is great and if you were at all a fan of D:OS2 you should give it a try. Don't go into it trying to encounter everything though, you'll end up burning yourself out before the actual release.
I only played one game released this year (unintentionally, I mostly ended up playing games released in 2017!). The one, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, was a bit of a disappointment. The only improvement over the first, imo, was the turn-based combat. The story wasn't as good, & the DLC (which came included in the PS4 version I played) added nothing - if anything, it detracted as all it felt like was added bloat (made me think they should've changed the name of the game to Deadweight!).
Looking forward to playing Cold Steel IV & Wasteland 3 in '21!
I like this new structure.
I have many gaps this year so I cant really say overall which game is the best, but for me its The Last of Us Part II. Just like the in game fiction, the best and worst of humanity was on clear display. Not only is it a technical marvel, it also stoked deep emotions in those that played it. I understand the hate it receives and at times think it is a little overhyped, but no other game dominated conversations like it did. It pushed forward accessibility to whole new levels and garnered interest from groups that dont even call themselves gamers. (my friend watched as I played it and wouldnt let me progress if they were not present)
Well, 2020 has sucked already, so why not one of my favorite features of GI too? I liked the top 50 games list. Screw you 2020!
I liked it too but let's face it, some years you look at some and go "really....that's one of the best games?"
I like these changes.
On that topic Reiner, could you please expand "Game Infarcer" to like 20 pages this year? I need more Darth Clark in my life.
I stilll hope to see Top 10 Dorks, that list always makes me laugh. I remember this one year ya'll roasted Hope from FF13 to to a crisp. Y'all were like "A BOOMERANG" and I just lost it haha
I didn't play too many that came out this year, and wasn't interested in a lot of them anyway. Y'all may call me a heathen, but I actually have no interest in Cyberpunk whatsoever, nor any in either Last of Us game. They're just not my style. With that said, my list:
1. Ghost of Tsushima
2. Hades
3. Monster Train
4. Mortal Shell (I quite enjoyed this one)
5. Spongebob SquarePants Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated (by default, though this is a fairly fun game)
Yeah, I've only played 5 games that came out this year.
You are normal. It's weird to play 10 new games in a year.
I'm not far enough into Cyberpunk yet, but my time games of the year are: The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, Doom: Eternal, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Watch Dogs: Legion (could change as I play more Valhalla too).
I'm good with this, because honestly---and correct me if I'm wrong---having 50 felt like editorial interference on the part of Gamestop, as if the feature was more a catalog of games they hoped you'd buy than a real year-end list. I'm sure they were all voted on fairly, it's just that the number of them and lank of rankings smacked of "This list could be used to sell more games."
Again, I'm not trying to attack, and if I'm completely wrong I'll eat my words.
I did like how they avoided debates by listing them by release date but I get your point, it could feel a tad bloated some years.
So many great games out there to choose from. I played on PS4 myself so Ghost of Tsushima was an absolute marvel and GOTY in my opinion. To each their own.
I know The Last of Us 2 will likely be #1 and I will be very sad and disheartened when it does. This is ONLY my opinion, take it as you see fit:
The game was beautiful looking, as is everything Naughty Dog makes but the story was an outrage. Pissed me off so bad and I was a HUGE fan of the first game. Absolutely loved it.
DO NOT get the second one if you haven't yet, it's insulting to fans. A slap in the face and is INCREDIBLY difficult to watch/play. It's truly disturbing, beyond what was needed. The controls and gameplay were ok, like the Rat King section truly terrified me, but the story was where it lost me. It was like they were trying to pish our buttons regarding sexuality, violence and other hardcore topics and it simply wasn't needed.
If Cyberpunk is #1, it will only be the PC version, the Playstation version was a joke.

Hades
Sadly haven't been able to get to as many games this year to judge but do expect Ghosts of Tsushima to be in the top three.
I suppose I'll add to the list of lists here... I think I have only "finished" 1 game released in 2020, so:
1. Persona 5 Royal
But if I were to add games where I've invested fairly substantial time:
1. Persona 5 Royal
2. Cyberpunk 2077
3. Star Wars Squadrons
4. Superhot: Mind Control Delete
5. Genshin Impact
6. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
7. Dreams
8. Fall Guys
I enjoyed all of the above games. I bought Ghost of Tsushima but hardly played it... I think I got through 3 story missions. It was still fun, but not enough time for a good judgement. Among Us would be #5 if it had really released this year. I wish I could've played Astro's Playroom and Miles Morales (I'll only play it the way God intended, on the PS5!)... maybe next year.
Wishlist for 2021:
10. Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne
9. Shin Megami Tensei V
8. Hitman 3
7. Gotham Knights
6. Horizon Forbidden West
5. Nier Replicant
4. God of War Squeakquel/5-ish
3. Some resolution to the Cyberpunk 2077 b***s***
2. To see the PlayStation Store un-f*****
1. Persona 5 Strikers
Here were my favorites:
1. Ghost of Tsushima
2. Doom Eternal
3. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
4. The Last of Us 2
and top gaming site https://www.atmegame.com
I have only played six games that were released this year, so I'm just ranking all of them.
1: Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time
2: The Last of Us Part II
3: Final Fantasy VII Remake
4: Cyberpunk 2077
5: The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope
6: Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Still playing though Cyberpunk, but at this point it's unlikely to overtake my top three.
1. Last of Us 2
2. Ghost of Tsushima
3. Hades
4. Ori and the Will of the Wisps
5. Doom Eternal
*Honourable Mention: Astro's Playroom for being just a great wholesome game. Can we have a full-length game from Team Asobi please!
Ori, Spiritfarer, AC Valhalla, Cyberpunk GoT, FF7 Remake, TLOU2, and Among Us for me
I’ma miss the top 50. I get change has to happen to keep up with times and grow readerbase, or maybe you guys just felt there needed to be a change because of online readership too. But either way, I just get a lil sad when things change.
Still, the Editor Top 10s are the most important part, because not only does it give context to your GOTY decisions but also helps readers connect more with the individual writers on staff as well.
All in all, really excited to see your picks! Keep up the great work!
I like the editor's top ten. It gives you a good idea what kinda genre they enjoy most for when you read their reviews.
I’m hip! Looking forward to seeing your picks.
I just realized I’ve only played 10 games from this year, so I’ll just rank them in order of enjoyment:
1. The Last of Us Part II
2. Hades
3. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2
4. Streets of Rage 4
5. Resident Evil 3 Remake
6. Ring Fit Adventure
7. Doom Eternal
8. COD Mobile
9. Star Wars Squadrons
10. Deliver Us the Moon
Games that I got to late and wish came out this year so I could include them on this list near the top:
1. Among Us
2. Observation
Games I decided to replay this year despite having a massive backlog:
Max Payne 1-3
The Longest Journey + Dreamfall
Hollow Knight
Dark Souls 2
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Killzone
I don't think there are any years where I play 10 games from the current year.
I'd like to see a feature of games of the year for the game that people actually played that year.
Same here. Had there not been a pandemic lockdown, I probably wouldn’t have been able to crack 10.
To your second point, I totally agree. Observation was one of my favorite games of this generation, but I was late to the party since I picked it up on Game Pass.
2020 was the year of backlog for me. Spent more time chipping away at the backlog than playing new releases. However of the ones I did play and complete my top 3 are:
1. TLOU 2
2. Ghosts of Tsushima
3. Animal Crossing
The 2 in last of us being next to the 2 for ghost of tsushima broke my brain more than it should have lmao. I need my morning coffee
Lmao Yea. I see how that could be a mind f**k. Fixed it.
in a year that was a bit on the dryer side compared to many other years i feel like this was probably the best year you could have made this change.
Wow this is a fantastic idea!!! Love it
I guess for me it’s Doom eternal and DBZ Kakarot. But I haven’t played many games that came out this year, besides those two it’s been Destiny 2 Beyond light, black ops Cold War and like maybe some dlc? I don’t play many games in the year that they come out tbh, I spent a lot of time this year playing Resident Evil 7, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Modern Warfare, Halo 5/MCC, Gears 5, Code Vein, Dark Souls (all of them)
There was a time when I felt a need to keep relatively current on games. The period between about 2008-2012, I'd say, which I felt was an especially fruitful one. I think the rise of digital storefronts on consoles, and the fact that there's almost always sales on there, killed my need to be caught up. Hard to justify dropping 60 bucks when it's gonna be on sale for 30 in a few months.
In addition to having more content and less bugs.
Yep. I'm even waiting on AC, which used to be a day one buy, because while I loved both previous games I loved them more once Ubisoft's fantastic post-launch content got going.
FF7R fav prob tho
Imma do my top 5 here and if yalls is different I will reee
1. FF7R
2. Persona 5 Royal
3. Trails of Cold Steel 4
4. Ghost of Tsushima
5. Doom Eternal
I am prepared to have a gamer fit
