Saddest thing about the finale: Finn.

Best thing about the finale: we never have to be exposed this piece of garbage again.

Saddest thing about the finale: it didn't come soon enough.

Cool, witty comment.

Also, re-runs.

One thing Glee got right was Rachel's choice of partner. A few weeks ago, I wrote on this ew comment section why the Sam romance was so forced and contrived. He was simply too much of a laid back homebody whereas I always felt she needed someone more dynamic and bold to match her Type A personality. I always felt the same about the Finn pairing as well (regardless of his good character). The Jesse St. James comeback may have seen out of left field for some, but I'm glad they remembered him (I certainly forgot) because he actually works. He's pretty much the male version of Rachel. They were both kind of difficult pests in high school, and both kept the same ambition while toning down the brashness as they got older and matured.

Additionally, in real life Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele are best friends and Cory (Finn) and Jonathan knew each other well. Jonathan was there for Lea when Cory passed away. I felt like ending Glee with Lea (Rachel) and Jonathan (Jesse St James) together was the most appropriate classy way to end Rachel's love life on the show, imo.

AT • 9 years ago

I agree. I never understood Rachel and Finn. Sure, they worked in the hallways of high school. But I never saw a marriage working out. They wanted very different things and were very different people. Whether Finn was still here or not, Jesse is the best match for her.

She's The Worst • 9 years ago

Rachel's best and favorite partner was always Rachel.

THANK YOU GLEE from the bottom of my heart for inspiring so many lives to celebrate our differences n be grateful for that. And thank you EW for keeping us updated since day one until the very last second of this phenomenally groundbreaking show. Thank u.. I'm so proud that I---that we--have been a part of this special thing fo the past six years. #BowDown

He asked a question. If you want homosexuality to be considered a normal thing, stop getting so defensive when people talk about it.

Steve • 9 years ago

Why does there have to be a point? It's just a simple question.

GrouperByTheTang • 9 years ago

Adam, do you 'support' poofter nuptuals?

Jeeves • 9 years ago

How is it phenomenally groundbreaking?

Taylor • 9 years ago

Keep out the political commentary and stick to reviewing the show.

annie1001 • 9 years ago

I agree. It's such a turn-off when Entertainment Weekly writers think they're a political magazine and makes political commentaries. I read these EW to read about television shows, not to read about their political opinions.

life • 9 years ago

thing is while characters sang pop songs, danced around around they dealt with very real issues that are political based

the songs rocked by the way and by pop i man popular songs from many genres and categories, the dancing take a lot of energy practice as many things do too.

annie1001 • 9 years ago

True. But did you read the recap of this show? The recapper interjected a lot of his own political views in this recap...totally uncalled. This is an entertainment magazine, not a political news site or magazine: " You’d have to be a grumpy critic, a Republican, or a natural born Glee hater to resist it." "And Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) was now the track-suited vice president of the United States. Seriously. She also served under President Jeb Bush. So maybe not everything turns out perfectly in the future."

Guest • 9 years ago

I agree. It is one thing for the show to have it. Not everyone has to interject their political beliefs too. Besides the reviewer is obviously more in line with the beliefs of Glee as a show. What about other opinions?

life • 9 years ago

it didn't bother many people due to the fact the storyline of the show discussed hot topic social issues in politics current to the real word and th shows reel world, though though several people think no matter what a show touched on a reviewer should never inject his/her opinion when recapping episodes.
anyways

JamesIsAGenderTraitor • 9 years ago

"Glee" itself is/was political. Are they supposed to ignore that when reviewing it? No doubt If "Glee" or this review was going on about right-wing politics, you would love it. But "Glee" was pointedly left-wing, from it's advocacy of gay rights on. Deal with it.

theduck0 • 9 years ago

True, but you know, I'm kind of right-of-center (on national policy, at least), and I'm glad that the final two hours reminded me why I liked Glee so much when it started. Whether I agreed with its politics or not, at its best Glee was extremely entertaining, as the final two hours showed. So let's not assume everyone who doesn't toe the left-leaning line can't appreciate something like this, OK?

JamesIsAGenderTraitor • 9 years ago

I shouldn't have suggested that. But the whining from above was too much because they had no idea that the reviewer was simply discussing what was in "Glee". They were just looking for "thumbs ups". And by the way, I'm a big fan of "Blue Bloods", which clearly leans right so you're right, a quality show is a quality show.

Guest • 9 years ago

A reviewer doesn't always have to interject in politics though to review a show. They weren't saying anything to really think about, as in an artistic choice made by the show, etc. They just couldn't resist insulting someone they don't agree with (republicans). It just isn't always needed. Yes the show had a lot of LGBT influence and was a main topic but it was also about outcasts of different background and colors as well. Republicans can feel like outcasts to and be drawn to the show. I think people miss the point of Glee. It was about outcasts and not just about being gay.

theduck0 • 9 years ago

Thank you, sir. I appreciate the reply (and for the record, I've never been able to get into Blue Bloods, but I'm glad you enjoy it. Guess politics really doesn't matter when something's entertaining!).

JamesIsAGenderTraitor • 9 years ago

Holy S%$t! A civil online discussion between two people from opposing political camps! I'm gonna pass out from the shock!

If we're not careful, we're gonna get booted from the internet!

I am like you, I am center right and don't see why people campaign so hard against gay marriage. It is not what I am concerned about. I liked the first 3 seasons of Glee which is why I watched the Finale. What I find interesting is the left (commentor, glee and ew) thinks they own the LGBT community and feel like their the only ones who have a "heart." The attitude gets tiring.

JamesIsAGenderTraitor • 9 years ago

You may not be concerned about it but the rest of the Republican party sure is. Republican politicians nationwide are often viciously and I mean viciously anti-gay. It's not the left "owning" us gays; it's that the left, including the whole of the Democratic party, embraces us and gay marriage and full on civil rights of all kinds. The Republican party doesn't; it calls for "traditional" marriage only, is against even civil unions and there isn't more than one or two pro-gay Republicans in this country. Look at the ugliness in Texas and Alabama right now. Google it; it's all Republican officials saying the most vicious things about gay people and telling people to disobey the coming Supreme Court decision, which will probably legalize gay marriage nationwide. In Alabama, Republican judge Roy Moore and the Republican legislature ordered clerks in State Houses to disobey a Federal court decision legalizing gay marriage there; that's patently illegal and similar to what Gov.Wallace did when the federal courts ordered him to accept black students in an all white school back in the 1960's: he stood in front of the school steps with his police force and turned the black students away, while a white mob threatened and screamed at them. Republicans have alienated all kinds of minorities by opposing them for decades now, which is why the Republicans are widely disliked. You reap what you sow.

Nonsense.

JamesIsAGenderTraitor • 9 years ago

FACTS.

JapaneseRamenNoodle • 9 years ago

Phony "facts" -- also known as nonsense, propaganda and outright lies.

JamesIsAGenderTraitor • 9 years ago

No, facts easily verifiable by googling. I know some of you far right types have a hard time with facts, since it usually contradicts your worldview.

JapaneseRamenNoodle • 9 years ago

Keep telling yourself that. Thankfully, enough people realize that the "narrative" in the media, press and elsewhere is being controlled and coerced.

Guest • 9 years ago

Thank you.

I don't get why you have to have the commentary. I came here and I'm assuming everyone else did as well just to read what happened on the finale. It's the end of the series, not the season. Show some class. Are they worried their friends aren't going to think they're cool or something for reviewing Glee? It's just a recap of the show, you don't have to get a tattoo of it on your forehead.

Annabelle • 9 years ago

Woah, agree. It's funny how the reviewer notes one of the series' main themes of tolerance, yet in the same breath insults a whole group. So the whole point of the series was just to "preach to the choir?" I thought it was supposed to inspire anyone who felt like an outsider - didn't realize the Glee club was exclusive.

It did bash republicans but I think republicans (like me) can overlook it because there were other messages on the show. It does kind of show how close minded people can be on both sides though. The writers assume every republican hates gay people, I certainly don't, in fact I would never vote against gay marriage if it came up. It is just not something I am overly concerned about. I am concerned about the economy and my student loans, etc. I do agree with you though it did come off really preachy sometimes.

life • 9 years ago

the shows characters in storylines in in the show touched on politics and government issues several times!

marilyn • 9 years ago

I thought the ending was nice. The first hour I went through a box of tissues. Oh how I wish Cory Monteith had never overdosed. There was so much potential with him and that show and with him and Leah Michele! Oh well....we cannot live in the past Goodbye all my Gleek fans!!

Erin • 9 years ago

As a long time fan, I'm happy the finale was a return to the feel good, sentimental, inspiring roots that made it a smash early on. We suffered during this last season but this show had enough TV magic to make it all worthwhile! Congrats to the amazing team and cast behind this show!

Unless you're a republican? Regardless of what political party you identify with, that's offensive... That had nothing to do with the subject in which you're covering so you're setting out offend a portion of your audience for no particular reason. I've been subscribed to your magazine four years and am on your site several times a week, but I am canceling immidiately. Your comment was unnecessary and rude, and your editor probably should have brought that to your attention before this piece was EVER published. Extremely disappointed with this publication, won't be giving them my business again.

annie1001 • 9 years ago

I agree. It was highly offensive. Jeff Jensen seems to think that the only people who watch this show are Democrats, I guess. I thought he was more intelligent than that, but I guess not. I used to have respect for him, but not anymore. The thing is, if he had taken the same jabs at the far left, the editors would probably have forced him to make an apology by now. I've read many recaps of the Glee finale an the Glee series as a whole and this is the most offensive one I've read and the most unprofessionally written one with all those uncalled-for political interjections. This is an entertainment news site, so the paid employees should be professional and stick to the entertainment value of the shows they recap.

Left-wing scum can't help being left-wing scum.

NY Republican • 9 years ago

Glad other people felt the same way about the insult to Republicans. I'm a Republican, a New Yorker, a teacher, and a lover of Glee from the first episode. You would think after watching the finale the writer wouldn't judge people based on labels (did you listen to what they were saying at the emergency Glee Club meeting to discuss Finn?)

Adam • 9 years ago

Wow...calm down! It's just a recap. Let's be honest, though. I highly doubt there were many Republicans watching Glee or reading this recap.

MomC • 9 years ago

You are wrong on both counts. Lifelong Republican, watching and reading and know many others too. This show was able to transcend political parties because, for a while, it really concentrated on characters. Often people who make comments such as that about Republicans forget that there are real people members of the party and that just because we identify as Republicans does not mean we agree with the party on every issue. Real world Republicans and Democrats are not that far apart. It is party leadership rhetoric and reporting by the media that makes things seem so divided. However, I will give you that people who identify as Tea Party are probably not huge fans.

TeaGleek • 9 years ago

I am a tea party libertarian (Although I often vote republican in local elections). They show does make fun of us a lot, but I take it in jest.

Balled my eyes out at the finale. I loved this season... so many great moments. Probably my favorite was the wedding episode!

PerishableNews • 9 years ago

I have to agree with much of your comment. I generally vote for Democrats, but I detest the far left of the party as much as I detest the far right of the Republican party.

Steve • 9 years ago

That's why Glee had such low ratings
