What does the UXP mean for existing HTML panels? Is it going to be something that the existing panels can be converted to using the existing HTML panel with a different interfacing? Or are HTML panels going away and there will be a different UI? I just dropped a couple hundred hours creating a very complex panel so not the greatest news to hear.

I will address those concerns in the next post/video, but briefly: your hundreds of hours of work won't be completely wasted. On the one side CEP is going to be around for a long time, and to some extent you can reuse part of the CEP logic in UXP. There will be differences though, it's not going to be a one click conversion: the two technologies are similar (both JS based) but at the same time quite distinct. Depending on the kind of work you're doing, pros can outnumber cons. Rest assured that I'll dig deeper on the topic, feel free to add more questions and I'll do my best to include answers (if I have them 😊) in the next post/video.

One other question......
Does the new system still use JSX scripting files similar to how the panels use JSX now? Or is the JSX also being replaced by the new JS system?

Davide Barranca • 5 years ago

The latter

Thanks for the feedback and being on top of it. I'm first in line to buy your new training material whenever it is ready :)

For the CEP, do you know if existing panels will work past CC 2021? I saw the "legacy" word in the menu and freaked out thinking it is going to be the path that flash panels went where there was 1 transition PS version and then that was it.

So the new plugin user interfaces will still be HTML, is that correct?

I'm a little concerned about functionality because my new panel is so complex. It is a batch processing system that uses files on the hard drive as "memory". It is persistent because it loads what it needs at startup and reads the hard drive files as it goes along. It pauses during the batch processing for the users to edit images and the scripting is halted. It restarts the batching when they press continue. There are a lot of moving parts to it so I hope it can be done in the new system.

Rest assured that CEP and UXP are going to overlap for "a significant amount of time". More on that later
