The gestures are going to be reversed again (3 fingers for tabs, 4 fingers for desks) from M79 (see here). If you use tab scrubbing as well as desks, you may not want to retrain your muscle memory, only to have to retrain back again it after the next stable release! I know I don't.

Thank heavens! It would've been so stupid to use the 3 finger swipe for switching desktops when
1. It's already being used for something else
2. 4 finger swipe is unused in CrOS
3. 4 finger swipe is already used to switch desktops on other OSes

I'm confused! I'm on 77 I think and 4 fingers moves between desks. 3 fingers furs tags.
Don't think I enabled a flag either...

Yup that's how it is on 77. They removed in 78. So dumb.

Thanks Robby, I also watch your Youtube Channel, Chrome Unboxed. This is the only article I've read so far which has the correct keyboard shortcut to switch between virtual desktops (others have 'ctrl' added in there for some reason). I have one question though ... what is the main purpose for using the virtual desktop? Is there a system resource advantage to having for example, Youtube in its own desktop and Chrome in its own dedicated desktop? How is this any better than simply selecting the open app from the bottom panel under one desktop like before?

Anyone know the keyboard shortcuts I should be using with a windows keyboard attached to a chromebook? Thanks

Hi David, here are some cool shortcuts:
Take a screenshot: Press Ctrl + Show windows Overview (or Ctrl + F5).
Take a partial screenshot: Press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows Overview (or Shift + Ctrl + F5), then click and drag.
Take a screenshot (on tablets): Press Power button + Volume down button.
Turn Caps Lock on or off: Press Search Search + Alt.
Lock your screen: Press Search Search + L.
Sign out of your Google Account: Press Shift + Ctrl + q (twice).
See all keyboard shortcuts: Press Ctrl + Alt + / (forward slash).
Shortcuts on external keyboards
If you’re using a Windows or Mac keyboard, press the Windows key or Command key instead of Search Search.

To change how a specific keyboard key works:

At the bottom right, select the time. Or press Alt + Shift + s.
Select Settings Settings.
Under "Device," choose Keyboard.
Change the function of one or more keys.

Thank you this is very helpful

i would much prefer 4 finger for desk switching and keeping tab switching to 3 fingers. Hopefully this becomes a config option in the future

Just updated my Pixelbook i7 to 78 & the Tab scrubby is still available, but it now uses a 4-fingers gesture.

Thanks for the reminders when things come to stable

I use the virtual desktop equivalent on my work Macbook pro all the time. Overall this is a great start here are two things I hope they fix though: 1) Change swipe direction based on scroll direction. The Macbook does this and changes the swipe and scroll direction with one setting. 2) The animation between desks, while not bad is slight jarring and in my opinion not smooth. I hope they take some inspiration from the mac virtual desk gestures. They are very smooth even on an old machine.

The gesture flag seems borked on the Pixel Slate. It turns on the 3 finger swiping between desktops, but now there is no gesture for tab switching. 4 fingers still just switches desktops.
