Side Note: Harriet Beecher Stowe was a Christian who wrote Tom as a Jesus Christ figure. Anyone who actually read the book would read a story where a slave on multiple occasions sacrificed himself and his comforts so that other slaves could stay together as a family. Tom was eventually beaten to death because a female slave had "escaped" her lascivious master. In actuality, she was hiding in the attic. Many months later when she ultimately escaped for real. The lascivious master realized that for her to have remained hidden she must have had food and water. Realizing that Tom knew all along that she had not escaped, and that he provided food and water for her, the lascivious master beat Tom to within inches of his life. He returned home to the young girl who truly cared for him and he died.

My bane of existence is the ignorance of not knowing the truth of the story of Tom's many sacrifices to help fellow slaves, and that the sympathetic character is one of the books that turned the tide of Americans toward the civil war.
