Practically ALL of the building trades and construction jobs have gone to illegal aliens. These used to be good paying jobs. Now, even when Americans want to do that work for the same wages as illegal aliens, they do not get hired because they do not speak Spanish.....and it would upset the rest of the crew.

Notice that the costs for hiring these contractors has NOT gone down.

Where I live, until a few years ago there was a Whirlpool plant that made refrigerators, employing 20,000 people. These were the best paying jobs in town, paying about 15 bucks an hour.
The plant was closed and moved to Mexico, throwing 900 people out of work, and hiring Mex to do the same work for 50 bucks a week.
The price of refrigerators did not change, nor will they.
Prices are not driven by costs.
Prices are determined by demand.
In this particular move, Whirlpool simply put more money in their pocket and certain people got a fat bonus. The rest of us got nothing.

I talk with managers of these places about those things and they think they're just awesome until I ask them if managing people is their biggest responsibility. They usually say yes. My next question is what happens to your job when there are no cashiers left? Nine out of 10 times I get a stunned look of "I hadn't thought about that".

No sir, they apparently don't. At least not in my mid Atlantic area. I come into contact with a large number of construction and services Contractors, who almost all have been complaining for several years of being unable to find reliable American laborers or semi-skilled workers. The wages required to persuade Americans away from welfare in all of its forms is just too high to keep the services competitive. Not to mention the long term negative effect of parents bad mouthing manual labor jobs versus desk jobs that are so easy to get with a college degree (Not!). So no middle class kids flip burgers or sweep floors anymore. No low income people will perform manual labor for modest wages when the Feds or the State will provide food stamps, low income housing, medical care, clothing, cell phones, cable service, everything needed to live comfortably if not modestly.

At least some middle class kids still work. One of my sons worked at McDs flippin' burgers to help pay for college en-route to a Mech Eng degree a few years ago. It's not just rich people wanting cheap labor. The middle class has long been willing to hire service providers to supply home and lawn maintenance when the homeowners are busy or older and less physically able to DIY. Also take a look around most assisted living and senior care centers and tell us who makes up the work force. It isn't whites, and these days it's far fewer blacks than 20 years ago. It's now staffed with all sorts of Latin American immigrants. These places aren't occupied by rich old people in most cases. I say again the problem is a far too generous, or rather a broken and easily defrauded welfare system.
