Not really unless it's a standing arrear when placements are going on. But you never know, if the company has some stupid rule of no history of arrears (which is very unlikely to be the case) you can not do anything about it. Frankly, there's nothing to worry, just clear the arrear and you're good to go!
I am a final year student studying in VIT Vellore . Thanks a lot Vatsal for guiding me into the process. Amazon visited the campus in the second week of July , and I have got selected in it and I will be interning there from January to June 2020.
I would like to share my interview experience so that others can get benefited from it .
The first round was an online round in which around 4000 students gave the test , there was no shortlisting done on the cgpa basis for the online round and almost everyone without having any current arrear was allowed to sit for the online round.
The online round consisted of two coding questions and 28 mcqs , the coding questions were mostly based on basic data structures and algorithms , one of them was very easy and the other one was of medium level. The mcqs were based on dsa only.
After the online round 70 students were called for the next round of interviews . There was a group fly round in which 2 questions were given , one was on graphs and the other was on BST , we had to code on pen and paper and after this round some 25 students were shortlisted for the next round. After this f2f tech rounds began , I had only 1 single f2f round which went on for 2 hours while others had 2 to 3 tech rounds . Amazon took 14 interns and 3 FTE from VIT this time and luckily I was one of the intern.
i m from mechanical branch, vit vellore, curently in my 6th sem with a cgpa of 8.3. Will i will be eligible to sit for amazon. Or is it only for cs , it?
Irrespective of if you'll be eligible or not, if you're interested in coding and considering switching your career to computer science, start learning. I'm sure you'll get more opportunities as you progress in your career.
my cgpa is 7.5 can you tell me for how much it sector companies i will be eligible for?
Hi Shivam, as I have pointed out in other responses too, it totally depends on the company what eligibility criteria they want to set. Also, it is not guaranteed that each year the criteria will remain same.
Thanks Dhiraj for sharing your experience. Hope others will find it useful.
i am 2nd year student. and i gi got backlog in one subject. so i will be able to complete it in 5th sem. so how much it will affect getting me an internship in summer vacation. and how much of not having intern in placement will affect
For on campus internships opportunity, it's ususally important not to have a standing arrear. Internships I feel has not really played much important role during placements in VIT unless you mention it in your resume and the interviewer is interested in it.
Hi bro,
Has there been a case in your batch were a guy was a decent coder, had good projects but still coudn't get the super dream offer. If so what might be the reason for that
Hi Abhinav,
I don't remember any specific case, but yeah rejections do happen. There are various factors behind it, for example, a person may be good with coding, but lacks proper communication skill or any other skills the company may be looking for. I do have seen cases where people do have good project they have worked upon (which of course means they know coding) but fail the competitive coding test which is required to get shortlisted for interview. Same is the case with many having high CGPA who fail to clear the competitive coding round.
For most super dream companies, the story revolves around three things - CGPA, Coding and Projects. You should have minimum CGPA which would make you eligible to apply. Your coding skills should be good enough which would get you shortlisted in the coding round. Although there are many others things in the interview, you should have at least 1 or 2 projects you can talk about if at all the interviewer asks.
If you have good projects, but lacking coding skills, projects are of no use because you have to get shortlisted first to show your projects. If you're good with DSA / Coding, but don't have enough CGPA to be eligible to apply, again no use. And of course, good CGPA alone is definitely not going to do any wonders.
It may sound like I'm asking you to be perfect with all skills but that is not the case. Focus on your strengths, know your weaknesses and work on them such that you have those skills bare minimum which would not hinder your selection. You'll have multiple opportunities, don't get depressed upon rejection, improve upon it for the next one.
Could you please share the types of projects you've done, Vstal Bhayya, so we can get an idea of what kind of projects we should pursue?
I did https://ffceonthego.vatz88.in , for me it was more about learning and doing something I feel is impactful. But there are many interesting ideas, just start building, learning is what matters as you approach different projects.
Don't copy something for sake of project, I have seen a lot of people do that, build it on your own.
Bhayya
Will super dream companies with Good package still comes Even after 1st semester,if so what are the odds of cracking it, i mean many of good coders and toppers are hired in first half,is it easy for average students to get hired with hardwork , because no matter how hard I'm trying even get shortlisted for first round, i can't able to clear all the rounds, because of lot of competetion from 9 pointers, can we ratain our hopes even in next half where nearly all 9 pointers and descent coders get hired in first half.
Some companies may come in the 8th semester too. But that should not matter. You should keep trying and give your best each time. The only competition you face from 9 pointers is when there is an eligibility criteria, other than that I don't see any. When you're already in 8th semester, you can explore off campus opportunities too.
Can someone tell me about the Placement offers of Automotive batch....?
No idea, try reaching your seniors from the same branch. Nevertheless, you'll always have mass placement option with the likes of TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, etc.
Hi bhaiya can you please tell me the importance of internships in placement, how much they matter and what kind of projects did you do
Sorry to disturb again but can you throw some light on wether joining a club is worth it or not
It really depends on the club / chapter, how much active it is and what work it does. It doesn't guarantee a placement but yeah certainly looks good on the resume. I frankly believe there are lot of issues with the way clubs function in VIT and especially the so called "recruitment" they do. I did not have any great experience with clubs. But if you can, do join any club of your choice and try to contribute.
Hi Ekta, in my opinion internships are very important. My internship didn't involve doing any specific project but I did learn a lot. If the company you get placed doesn't offer an internship in the last semester, I recommend you try finding one through off-campus. Spending entire last semester only doing college project is a waste compared to what you could possibly learn during that time doing an internship.
Wow! Thanks. You really did clear up some things for me that have been bugging me for the past few months. I am a CSE student currently in my 5th semester and will be sitting for placements in less than a year I guess. I don't have much contacts with seniors. I have a few doubts and struggling to find some directions. Can you please help me get started?
Hi Aravindan, glad this post was helpful. I'm always happy to help. We can continue in this thread or if you prefer ping me on messenger https://m.me/vatz88
If it's more general question then continue with this thread so that other people reading it can too get the benefit of the discussion.
Hello , Im a Student at VIT Bhopal currently a first year student i know its too early to ask such questions but currently looking at the placements I feel kinda insecure about future and being an average student in here i dont think i would be able to reach the 8.5CGPA mark as well but if i try my hard i could try reaching 8 gpa mark or probably less then 8 cgpa i was worried if there would be companies that would still give a chance to me for sitting in interviews for super dream placement offers? preparing for interviews would be an another question for me, I would kindly request you to answer my question as it would help me prepare and set goals for future.
Thank You.
I think I have answered this in multiple responses on other comments + covered it in the blog as well.
It's very obvious to be anxious during the placement season, but I'd recommend, don't overthink and focus on your strenghts.
All the best!
I am currently studying in VIT vellore.I got back in 6th sem in japanese.what is the placement scenario in 8th sem can u tell me if u know
There should be companies coming for hiring in 8th sem as well, I can't guarantee it though. You should also try finding something off campus. I already have this covered in this blog, but I see why this could be bugging you.Don't feel depressed seeing all your friends going for placements and you not being eligible to apply due to an arrear.
I had an arrear in my 5th semester as well.
I think I never shared this but the google form i'm referring to for Tapzo had a criteria as minimum 80% in 12th. I didn't have that. I still went ahead and filled the form. I did admit it in my last round that I don't have 80% after I was selected. It didn't matter to the interviewer. And the rest is history.
I never shared it before because I was made to believe placement PAT could take action against this for breaching the eligibility criteria. PAT office a joke. All the best.
Bhaiyya, I am a 3rd year student in VIT Vellore. My CGPA is 9.25. I want a career in Data Analytics/Data Science. Do companies also come for these roles or do they only come for developer roles? And if yes, then do they conduct interviews for both roles commonly or is there a difference in the interview process for my interested roles?
Companies do come for both the roles, though quality of work you get to do in that role totally depends on the company and work profile they are offering. Interview process depends on the company, I can't comment much on it.
Hey bhaiyya,
Thankyou for the information
I just wanted to ask if a msc student could sit in the placement for IT students
Placement cell can probably answer it better. I do know there are companies which come to hire MSc students as well. Good luck!
Hello Vatsal bhayya, I'm currently in my 4th sem and my CGPA is 9.04, I'm good at DSA, I have 5* on hackerrank and I do competetive coding almost everyday (Codechef & codeforces). Can you please give me some advice on how I can prepare for f2f interviews so that I can ensure a super dream offer. Thankyou.
Your cgpa and coding skills sound pretty sold. Keep up with competitive coding. Don't have much tips for f2f interviews, just try not to get nervous. Maybe Google can help with more tips. All the best!
Can I sit for placement in 8th sem after clearing backlog in 7th sem?
I don't know, but should be possible
Hi. I'm currently in my 3rd year with 8.3 GPA ECE branch. I've decent coding skills. Will I be eligible for any decent super dream/dream companies ?
Companies decide their eligibility criteria, i can't say much on that.
vatsal bhayya iam a student of vit bhopal do we have good placememnts?
No idea. VIT does claim to give equal opportunities in all campuses
Hi, I am in my 5th sem right now. I will barely touch 8.49 by the end of 6th semester. So I wanted to know if I'll be able to go for superdream companies with ctc more than 15L. I am a decent coder. Also I would like to ask what all other companies allow person below 8.5 cutoff apart from Amazon, McKinsey and OneDirect. Thankyou so much for this article. This is so helpful.
As I have highlighted this in other answers, eligibility criteria are set by the companies which may change year on year. There's nothing much to speculate on in. Best is you can check what was the criteria for the batch one year senior to you, that should give you the latest information.
Best is to focus on your skills so that you give your best on the opportunities you get.
Respected Sir/Bhaiya ,Are 1/2 month internships mandatory to be eligible for super dream offer companies in VIT?
No. Internship experiences are good to have but not mandatory.
Bhaiya, Capstone project is needed in the cv or not ?
Well, no one will have their capstone project completed to put in resume for campus placements since it'll be conducted before your final semester ends which is when you submit your capstone project.
You can have a projects section in your resume. List down your projects or projects you contributed to, which you feel are a good highlight for your resume. It is not necessary to list capstone project here.
Am I allowed to sit cse companies like Amazon if I m from EEE
I'm not sure. It depends on what branches they decide to allow. But if you're really good with DSA you can apply off campus. They do a lot of hiring for SDE.
bhaiya my,current aggregate gpa is about 8.85 but am not a vellore campus student,
So is cgpa something I need to work upon or focus more on competitive coding stuff.
Hi, as far as I know VIT holds common placements for all the campuses. Try to maintain a good balance between cgpa and competitive coding. It totally depends on your strengths and weaknesses. CGPA was never my thing, so I focused on my projects and coding skills. You can better judge it for yourself.
vatsal bhayya...if i have a arrear in physics whoch is not my core subject....will it effect anything regarding my placement in super dream .....however ill clear sometime...but will there be effect in super dream
