I have paused the latest update hoping that any problems with it will be resolved before I let it install?

Treta Ghunberg • 3 years ago

Damn, I've been blocking updates since March, now I'm experiencing gaming issues related to DirectX so I enabled them. It's installing KB4556799 will my system be screwed?

FitBoy • 3 years ago

yes but don't worry they will release an update soon to fix the issue.

All vulnerabilities were programmed under bad design and software engineering.
All these stability issues reach us because people who would have tested in the past, got fired.
In the meantime, Linux support in Windows was developed and Windows icons got redesigned.
Fire the exec leading this priority setting.
Don't use me as alpha tester.

Microsoft fixed an rdp path traversal issue using "\" in July.

Only they didn't. In February, they resolved an issue preventing path traversal using the "/".

Only they didn't. Well, they did, but not for third-party apps, which can still traverse paths using the "/" character.

Microsoft is fixing the symptom, not the underlying issue.

Still anxiously awaiting your desktop screenshots from your Linspire machine....

I would rather my computer become a Chinese malware infested bot, that led to the nuclear destruction of the entire state of Washington, than to ever again voluntarily install another crappy Microsoft Windows 10 update. Ideally, the blast would be just close enough to Bill Gates to cause slow death by radiation poisoning, rather than a quick end. Burn in hell for eternity, Redmond.

I'd actually be shocked if they had a major update WITHOUT problems. This nonsense has been going on for FAR too long. It would be fascinating to know how many people-years have been lost to update issues.

Yet another "Fix" that needs to be removed. DON'T THEY TEST THESE THINGS???

Temporary files too high can't update

Must be the bug I have. About every 5-8 days, after going to bed, the network connection (wired) is ok, but after work the next evening, I have NO internet, the MS security icon has a yellow bang, and YOU CANNOT ACCESS it no matter what you do, nor can you go to programs and run it there. If you attempt to do a system restore, it goes through the motions, but after it is finished, it comes back up and says it failed with a huge hex code, but, the internet connection along with the MS security icon are restored. Beats me what it is.

Betanews vs Windows 10/2020

There have been some issues with audio that were reported on Reddit but nearly all of those issues seem to have been connected to a third-party piece of crap software called Nahimic. Removal of that software restores audio functionality.

I really do wish that hardware companies would stop adding their own garbage software and just stick to the basics. Custom stuff always messes things up. It wouldn't be bad if the third-party software is updated frequently but more often than not it's not leaving users with broken software or broken functionality.

Nahimic is an obsolete extension for sound enhancement for Raltek drivers.

Too busy running chkdsk/r after last forced update to worry about any of this.

They do seem to be having a lot of issues keeping the operating system operating normally. Microsoft Windows 11, powered by Microsoft Linux, would let Microsoft spend less time keeping their kernel running, and more time working on cross-platform applications.

I mean, Microsoft loves open source now. They were on the wrong side for many years. A benefit of Microsoft Windows 11 would be more cross-platform software, and better driver support for macOS and Linux.

roborodent • 3 years ago

If Microsoft ports Windows and develops it's own Linux distro it will go the way of Android and branch out. Open source is too slow to respond to market trends. We've seen Google and Amazon do it. What makes you think MS wouldn't do the same? I'm not even sure it would be healthy for the other distros to compete with a Trillion dollar company either.
