F2P game with tons IAP and its sh$%#
https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

balcobomber25 • 5 years ago

I've actually been enjoying it so far. I wasn't expecting a full Elder Scrolls story. My expectations were it will suck like most mobile games do. It's been fun to kill an hour here and there.

I'll probably spend more time playing this (and enjoy it more) than I did playing Fallout 76, which makes me sad. I've tried to go back to 76 about 4 times now and each time I was more bored than the last. Bethesda used to be my favorite company.

Plasmastorm73 • 5 years ago

Loot boxes are what have been destroying the gaming industry which is on the edge of crashing. Does anyone else remember when you could buy a game and just play it...no microtransactions no in app purchases... you simply played. If people would stop paying companies they would force developers to stop the bs.

TWD247 • 5 years ago

P2W piece of crap

Pistols • 5 years ago

The game gets old fast. I got bored quickly with the same same dungeons and even with free movement, the almost 'on rails' feel to the game. Pointless having a blacksmith, you need to hope and pray a better weapon drops from your 8 hour wait opening a gold chest.

Plasmastorm73 • 5 years ago

My problem exactly. I got bored within 30 minutes...

Francois Roy • 5 years ago

I just blasted through 25mb to load this page. That is a lot when you're on mobile and you don't have unlimited data. I wish you paid more attention to this kind of thing.

We just had this discussion when it came to animated gifs, but whether it's 1 x 25mb gif or 25 x 1mb images, this is pretty much the same.

I will have consider holding on loading Matthew's posts depending on the kind of connection I am on, and that just feels wrong. I don't have this kind of problem with the IGNs, Gamespots and Polygons of this world, so why is it a problem here? There is no need to make us load the full rez assets on mobile when you end up with 3 tiny side-by-side images on a 5-6 inches screen.

Thanks.
.. And nice post, by the way; I simply wish it wouldn't be so data hungry.

Basilikon • 5 years ago

This. Shit is important to pay attention to guys. Low rez thumbnails that we click for full rez images.

SGJ • 5 years ago

No support from me for any pay to win game.

briandemodulated • 5 years ago

I usually can't stand high production value mobile games but I'm having more fun than expected with Blades. I like the town hub that you can gradually upgrade, and I like that there's lots of quests to accept and you can teleport right to the quest area for instant action. I feel like Bethesda made a good mobile game that can be played for seconds or minutes.

bherdm • 5 years ago

I agree that the play sessions seem flexible between seconds and minutes. It feels like a lot of thought went into making the game instantly 'exitable' so you can get back to real life with no loss of game progress. I really enjoy it as a bite sized and ongoing TES game.

Bp_sti • 5 years ago

Its so good I was able to exit it permanently with no loss of progress. And I was able to get back to a good game, like Darkest Dungeon.

briandemodulated • 5 years ago

It's very impressive how you don't have to worry about saving. Just exit anywhere and whenever you come back you'll be standing right where you were. Very convenient and well designed.

Heysus Humberto Cristo • 5 years ago

Well, you can play all of the superior mobile games that have released over the last 8 years with no aggressive MTX. If you enjoy this game this much you’re going to lose your lid when you find it it’s been done on mobile before but a million times better.

bherdm • 5 years ago

Examples? I'm playing Blades and liking it too. Would love to know about games that are a million times better.

The Explorographer • 5 years ago

Trolls don't supply facts. This hate train shit is toxic. The best answer to this is a heroic ignore.

Heysus Humberto Cristo • 5 years ago

It’s so easy to label people a troll when you know they’re right. It’ll hopefully throw everyone else off and invalidate anything they say. And there are no facts to give here. It’s a subjective matter. What is fact is that this game was made 9 years ago on mobile and it’s a million times better. 20 seconds of research should find it. I don’t provide anything beyond that because you clearly stay away from knowing what else can be out there to praise this game to the max.

Heysus Humberto Cristo • 5 years ago

See, I highly doubt you do. If you did you’d simply put “best free *insert genre here* mobile games” into any search engine in existence and you’ll get piles and piles of games that blow it away. It’s that easy but you’d rather live in the bubble and think this below average F2P mobile game is anything but. And hell, if you’re willing to spend $5 you just got yourself a list three times as long. Games made 6+ years ago that do everything this game wants to do but better.

Br0k3n Salm0n • 5 years ago

You make fair points, but fail to mention the fact that it is an early access and still has a long way to go from being a complete game. Now certainly I agree, the story is lackluster and the combat is pretty boring and in a lot of cases buggy, but a lot of this stuff is probably suspect to change. When it comes to the monetization part of it, once again, as of right now there isnt a multiplayer option, so paying for gems literally just makes the game easier and it's kind of pointless in the long run, so I really wouldnt call it pay-to-win, as you're only paying to make the experience more casual and it doesnt affect anyone but you... also, being an Elder Scrolls fan since I was 11 and having dumped probably close to a hundred hours (each) in Oblivion, ESO, and Morrowind, and probably triple that in Skyrim, I actually dont mind at all the time it takes to progress. I've never looked at any TES game as a game that I expect to complete in five hours. Gems and Crates are easy enough to get without paying too. A good number of enemies drop gems upon death, and you get a silver crate from pretty much every job you do. What I do, I'd I open five silver crates during the day, (sometimes I'll sneak in 6) and then, as I'm going to bed, start to open a gold one. That's seven chests in one day, which will get you a building a day if you dont forget to start opening a chest... Plus plenty of wood ones, which in a lot of cases, give you around 4-8 gems.

Now of course it doesn't live up to any of the other Elder Scrolls games, but let's keep in mind that this game is an early-access mobile game and you are being way too quick to judge. A lot of these issues will be fixed when the game is further along in development.

Frank Atkisson • 5 years ago

Its trash. When a company releases an unfinished product, they don't get to forestall judgment of that product until they decide to finish it.

I judge what they release. In this case, its an unfinished cash grab that spent all of its budget on socially engineering a minimum requirement of appeal to stupid people.

Br0k3n Salm0n • 5 years ago

Yes, because someone enjoying something that you dont clearly makes me stupid.

I get your argument, I'm just saying that you cant completely ignore the fact that it is an early release, which is what a lot of negative reviewers are doing. As it stands right now, to you, it may be trash, but that might change later. I'm not saying either that the game is perfect, as I have many issues with it myself; it doesnt even come close to meeting the standards of any Elder Scrolls game. But it is an entertaining mobile game that happens to be in an RPG universe that I grew up with. I dont see how enjoying that makes me stupid.

Heysus Humberto Cristo • 5 years ago

“You can’t judge the game harshly because of an arbitrary tag put on it. No matter how malicious the MTX is because it might change someday.” Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

Frank Atkisson • 5 years ago

It isn't enjoying something I don't that makes you stupid.

It's endorsing and accepting half finished cash grabs. You're even making excuses for it.

Br0k3n Salm0n • 5 years ago

I'm not accepting or endorsing the pay to win aspect of it. My point is simply the fact that it is early release and therefore judging it off of how it is right now is foolish as it isnt a finished game. Unless you're an impatient child, you dont need to spend money at all. Idk it's probably just due to the fact that I'm not a hardcore mobile gamer, as I only even really play Blades when I'm waiting at the doctors' office or other things like that, so the in-game wait times arent really an issue.

I actually dislike very much how the game works in a lot of ways, but I'm mature enough to realize that I cant expect a masterpiece out of an early-release and I wish others would be patient enough to have that same view, so this game will have a chance. All of these bad reviews will shut it down before it even has the oppurtunity to take off.

Frank Atkisson • 5 years ago

So, if you got a car and it didn't work that well, didn't have entire feature sets installed yet and you had to pay a dollar every time you wanted to use power windows rather than hand crank them, you'd be ok with that? You'd defend that practice and say 'they'll install everything over time'?

Because I suspect you'd never want that car to begin with, and because it isn't a video game, you'd recognize what a trashfire it was.

You've been brainwashed by game companies into accepting as normal a product that isn't finished and blatantly wastes your time unless you continuously pump money into it.

Moreover, they've successfully convinced you to defend their actions, and I don't suspect that you get anything in return for defending them.

Heysus Humberto Cristo • 5 years ago

He gets a pat on the back from himself as he stares in the mirror.

Br0k3n Salm0n • 5 years ago

I wouldnt buy an unfinished car, just as I wouldnt buy an unfinished game of low quality. I have put no money into Blades and I dont feel like you should. I have literally put nothing into Blades, save time thus expect nothing out of it immediately. It's why I havent yet purchased Fallout 76, because many people said it felt like an unfinished game. You're basing this all on the fact that you have to pay to advance in the game, when you really dont at all, it just takes a good while, but as I stated in my original comment, I've dumped hundreds of hours into previous installments of the Elder Scrolls series and am used to reaching the end game over a long period of time. I really dont mind the in-game waits, but I can see how they'd get old. You're also being a bit melodramatic if you truly think I've been "brainwashed", it ain't that deep, bruv.

Frank Atkisson • 5 years ago

Good to know you don't value time.

You say you aren't brainwashed, yet every single thing you say sounds exactly like you've accepted their horrid business practices.

That's brainwashing, 'bruv'. The real thing never did require melodramatics.

Br0k3n Salm0n • 5 years ago

You seem very bent on the idea that I'm for the pay-to-win side of things when I literally just said I wasnt. I think it's stupid and I think it's pointless. It isnt "horrid" business to target adults who literally are as patient as five year olds, it's just business. I think microtransactions are a plague to gaming and I wish they didnt exist.

You also say "horrid business practices" like you wouldnt do the exact same thing if you were heading the game. It's basic human nature to want to get as much out of something with the least amount of work required. I'm not brainwashed to say this, I'm just simply not surprised anymore by it, and in fact expect it nowadays. It's obviously wrong and once again, I wish it wasnt the case, but it is.

Also, just because I'd rather wait few hours, which is time I can spend being productive or be doing literally anything else besides Blades, than spend real life money to just have it instantly done, doesnt mean I dont value time, it just means I'm financially responsible and dont rely on a mobile game for 24/7 entertainment.

Frank Atkisson • 5 years ago

You're supporting a trash game with your time.

Do you think that time isn't worth anything and that you're not perpetuating the problem becausw you're not spending cash on it yet?

This isn't difficult. Your mental gymnastics amount to nothing but you defending something you'd uninstall and never touch again if you actually cared about doing your bit to make these game studios do better.

You're part of why they don't have to. You spend time on it.

Time is money in the business of advertisement and use data. Time spent on trash like that is one more number they can show in support of this model to investors.

And no, I don't do things like this in my industry. I find the good will, positive customer feedback and word of mouth advertisement enhanced by both to be far too valuable to squander on shortsighted, foolish and self-sabotaging expressions of runaway greed.

Heysus Humberto Cristo • 5 years ago

This game has brought upon us the Mental Gymnastics Olympics of 2019. Some of the shit people defend in trash ass games is stupidly mind boggling.

Br0k3n Salm0n • 5 years ago

That's a good point, but unfortunately it's unlikely that things will change by a simple boycotting as it stands right now. I'd jump right on the boycott if A) I hated the game enough, and B) if I thought it was going to contribute to any actual change, which isnt the case for Blades for me. I always wait to judge until the product is finished, as it stands right now it certainly has my interest piqued, but if it doesn't bring in that many changes to the final version I will hate it, and the boycott bandwagon isnt really big enough. Idk, I think we should speak out against the pay-to-win system, I 100% agree with that. I just think that the in-game mechanics like combat and stuff shouldnt be judged this early in.

The Explorographer • 5 years ago

"so I really wouldnt call it pay-to-win" you would if it got you clicks-for-money

Br0k3n Salm0n • 5 years ago

I misspoke when I said that, I was trying to just say it's essentially a pointless pay-to-win.

Matthias • 5 years ago
There's always something to work towards, which can feel fulfilling as you complete your goals.

You mean it can give a sense of ... pride and accomplishment? :D

Morten Ulv • 5 years ago

I've tried getting to play it probably 5 times, but I refuse to look at the download screen for 2-15 minutes for it to download. Let it download through the play store or at the VERY least let it download in the background.

bearinyourmind • 5 years ago

So.. Basically it's Skyrim Mobile with lockboxes.

CosmicDan • 5 years ago

Most biased and cynical review I've seen of the game yet - if I wanted to point out all the OBJECTIVELY false statements I'd be here all day, though I did scoff at the "lack of skill based gameplay". Gamers are so jaded these days!

mjrnumber13 • 5 years ago

Most biased and pathetic defender of Bethesda and their shitty anti-consumer practices I've seen yet

OuyaFanBoi • 5 years ago

THIS

Reesz Adriano • 5 years ago

The world becomes a sad place when I know people like this exists.

Heysus Humberto Cristo • 5 years ago

You didn’t point them out because there are none. You think this is skilled based gameplay? Lmfao!!

Andrew G • 5 years ago

The graphics are stunning, that part of your review is crap.

Dan • 5 years ago

I played it for a good 2 days before I was bored by the repetitive mechanics. The actual game play is boring and brings no sense of accomplishment. I was hoping for something better from Bethesda, but unfortunately it all seems to be downhill from here.

lazychocobo • 5 years ago

Imagine if they would have released a good mobile elder scrolls game with no IAP.... I can't even imagine.

Reesz Adriano • 5 years ago

"that's exactly what TES fans wants"

Actually, do anyone really knows what they want? Considering that they praised Heartfires and Skyrim as a whole, even though it's one of the most shallow game I've ever played, I think Blades is exactly what TES fans wants.

Heysus Humberto Cristo • 5 years ago

Shallow game? Lmfao!!!
