"And I think if you want to have impact at a company like Google, you need to have a bit more focus." - Ironic, since it's rumored that the Pixel 5 is removing Soli. But I do like the idea of the ATAP team being an interesting asset to Google's hardware team, even though, admittedly, most of their endeavors haven't really caught on, ambitious as they are. Again, they're nice ideas, on paper at least. Google just needs to follow through on said "focus."

Sidenote - that Ultrasound Sharing sounds like Google's version of Apple's U1 chip, possibly. Maybe we'll see it on Pixel 5?

Not really. The U1 chip does ultrawide band. That's completely different from ultrasound. The U1 chip is used for precise localization in close range.

Sorry, I said Google's VERSION of it. It'd take some time before Google actually makes their own unique chip being a direct solution, unless ATAP makes said unique chip.

But how would you do localization with ultrasound? I guess it could be possible with some sort of triangulation but that would require all devices that need to be localized to have speaker. For small Bluetooth tags like Tile or Apples upcoming AirTags that's not really an option. It would also require calibration for each device because microphones are placed different on each device.

"But there wasn’t really a cohesive vision or strategy. And I think if you want to have impact at a company like Google, you need to have a bit more focus."

There is no focus at Google. They are all over the place with hardware.
