Microsoft Edge user here. Seeing this as a intrusive full screen makes people turn themselves off. Microsoft, you need to stop forcing people to use Edge if they prefer other browsers like Google Chrome. This is not okay for consumers plus it's also anti-consumer.

Except for importing your data in the background without permission, I don't see a problem with other things, it's just Microsoft leveraging their own platform to promote their own product. Is it a problem? No. Would it be a problem? Yes, if Edge had a major market share, there would be antitrust issues. Google does similar things in their own ecosystem.

You are comparing features with prompts or "ads". The right comparison is Google's recommendation to use Chrome when using Gmail in Edge. Anyway, I think Google should block all adblockers at least within their products. It won't happen and it would piss many users but it's actually a right thing.

You'd think Microsoft would have learned its lesson from the late 1990s, when it behaved like a bully boy and the Department of Justice launched antitrust proceedings against it.

After what had happened to IE9/10/11 and legacy Edge to Edge Chromium, I think so that Microsoft learned from the past. But does Google know about this? From paying Safari billions of dollars as default search engine in Mac/iOS/iPad and all Android phones with all of Google services are tied up also to these devices! Let's see if the consortium of Chinese manufacturers can relate to this, that is why they're UC browser, App Gallery, etc.

MS paid Apple for few year and made Bing their defaulf search engine. Google start paying after that to make Google it's main search provided again. Maybe Apple shouldn't take money and let people option to add a default search provided in Siri.

Another monopolist when it comes to their walled ecosystem from hardware, store apps and many patents .

What about Apple? What did they learn from Microsoft? Considering the chocie you have on the ios, ipad platform, I woud say nothing.

Best use of Edge: to download Chrome.

Not digging these antics from Microsoft. The new Edge doesn't even need it, it's such a great browser and better/more lightweight than Chrome in my opinion.

The EU at quite busy dealing with covid19, so don't have the time to deal out multi billion dollar fines like the last time Microsoft did exactly this...

What better time for scumbags at Microsoft to take advantage of this.

What is stupid is this version of edge has less useful PDF features than the previous version and there's no going back. So now I'm back to using edge for absolutely nothing. What a step backwards. Block the install if you really enjoy the useful features of edge using your pen on a surface. So dumb to hamstring your own OS's hardware with a forced software upgrade.

Fantastic decision from Microsoft. So glad they did, it made it so much easier to transition.

Now if only Google would stop with all their stupid pop ups every time I load Gmail, YouTube, Google maps into someone else's browser asking if I want to switch to Chrome! -- Now this behaviour from Google is super annoying the 400th time.
