Banks traditionally cave when ¨the government¨ demands information. They also work as collection agencies for the government if a bank account is fed by automatic social security deposits. I know, having been victimized by this system. I suggest EVERYONE to avoid keeping more than a few dollars in a bank account, withdraw any larger amount at once, stash it someplace OTHER than a bank account. In addition, they will open a safe deposit box at the drop of a hat - DO NOT trust a bank. Find other ways to manage your money.
