Here is my two cents: China just claimed publicly that all the islands in South China Sea are their territories and they have the right to deploy their military assets. This includes the small islands they grabbed that was within the Philippine Economic Zone. However, their purpose in expanding their territory in South China Sea is to choke the International waterways, where ships carrying cargoes pass freely. They will soon eventually dictate who can pass the international waterway, and who cannot. This is the reason why the US Navy constantly perform “Freedom of Navigation” patrol in South China Sea because US will not recognize what the Chinese is trying to accomplish, to control all the movements in South China Sea.
