The key(s) are wonderful and play so nicely as the monogram. The x height feels overly aggressive and I can't help but wonder if that was to bring the height and crossbar of the Fs down to make the key element work. The part that weirds me out though is the optical similarity between the serif and the sans typefaces. For all their obvious differences, in use they look enough like each other that I couldn't discern one from the other at a glance.

And here I was thinking it being technically correct was making it optically wonky.
And it's a different level of attention to detail but a listing for Alien with a screenshot of AlienS in the genre of Crime is making my head spin.

The campaign videos smack of AI. Everything just feels just on the wrong side of uncanny valley (or the aesthetic is so ubiquitous that it's an aimed-at look now). The static window cutaway system using the F is a decent application. Just wish the type was better planned-for.

Love the work, but why are all the mockups in NYC? Do they not make templates for Canadian cities? Really got my hopes up that I'd be seeing this fun stuff IRL over here.

The 1-in-5 graphic feels unfair as a broad takeaway. The percentages seem to line up (at least, of the brands I recognize) with how much each brand makes their purpose part of their messaging. Except Nike, who has the money to push multiple messages with enough saturation so more than one can stick. "People aren't going to hunt for your purpose" seems like the takeaway more brands need to hear.

A fresh install (dowloaded because of the article) on my iPhone had all screens animating. Strange we all had something different going on. They were pretty, though.

As oh-no coincidental as the 37 is, the lower-right "both places acknowledge the existence of the ocean" shot kinda feels like they just needed something to round out their grid.

That S is... woof. Though all the things that make me hate it in 2D (the breaking the star in half to make it fit, the strange bounce in the middle) seem to help it in the 3D renderings, particularly the plumper ones like the mylar balloon. It seems like a stretch to say that's the reason they made the base silhouette so awkward, but I was still surprised when I saw it find its groove in those formats.

One time I was trying to get from Jay St-Metrotech to West 4th but accidentally got off at Sundance Film Festival 2023 and, honestly, it was a great time.

(Also I do think the system looks pretty damn clean when it's all put together)

I could love the animations but there's something ever so slightly wonky about them and I can't put my finger on what. The mark is so much stronger than the previous... but what I REALLY wanted to bring up is the line: "How may we F-Secure you?" That's uh... is it just me?

It's almost like the straight of the N beside it creates an optical illusion and kicks the joint of the X over to the right, making it look like a backwards K.

Much as I agree, anecdotally I can't deny the shelf recognition of that hideous S. It's my go-to and I can see it from across the store. In fact, it's so recognizable on its own, until this review I'm not sure I could have told you which parent brand it belonged to.

I was thinking something similar, especially in stuff like OOH or social. But where the rubber meets the road (the ID cards, the site), I think it's striking a really nice balance between forward-thinking, cool-kid Web3 stuff and we-take-this-seriously, bank-y type security and trust.

Personally I don't hate Corp. Memphis because it's overused, I dislike it because at this point it's not really ownable. And this brand has a pretty ownable footprint.

When compared to the bold and really successful application of the Guilloché patterns (thanks for teaching me that term!), strong type, and welcoming, high-contrast palette, the illustrations seem overly complicated and fussy, when one of the large icons from the same set could achieve the same effect of nodding to the verticals they cover.

I am left feeling confused at who this is for. All the fun visuals look consumer-ready with a younger slant while all the copy speaks to a heavy logistics crowd and the contrast is pretty stark. I wouldn't be surprised if they relegate most of the fun stuff to constrained areas like in the mobile app. Which would be a shame; if they leaned into the fun in their written voice, they could have a chance to ::ahem:: freshen up an entire industry.

And this last part is definitely me not knowing industry lingo, but they use the word "fresh" in a way I've never heard before.

The bouncing line reminded me of this old Miller High Life bar clock from the 70s/80s. Used to stare at that thing for hours as a kid, and regardless of how I feel about the overall identity, my afternoon is now spoken for.

I really dig the look. I also can't see the proper name taking hold at first but I love that it could gain traction over time because people already hide the new name in the pronunciation by saying "ninety seck en why"

Finer technical aspects aside, if you had asked me to draw the old logo from memory, I probably would have drawn the new one. So, hooray for simplification.
