you can tell AIM to stay connected. Go to your settings, you should see AIM if it's installed, and then set your settings to stay connected when closing the app. I'm not sure which other ones do the same thing.

haven't heard of this before. are you using any sim-hacks? 2g or 3g? i recommend a backup and restoring your 2.1 software. we have had zero reports of 2.1 bricking any pwned devices, so don't worry....
