My oldest did EXACTLY this!

Just make it her responsibility! My daughter would be in her underwear, per usual, and have to go potty. So we would hand her a pull-up, as requested. She had to get her own pants off, get the pull-up on, pee in it, take it off, throw it away. Quite the production! It really only took a couple of weeks of this before she decided welp, it's just sooo much easier to just sit on the potty. She actually looked at me like I was the idiot who suggested the pull-ups in the first place.

The reason this worked, I think, is because it was ALL. HER. DECISION. This child was so very stubborn, there was no negotiating or cajoling or bribes that would make her sit on the potty if she didn't want to. So we backed off completely, but made her deal with the hassle of the pull-up. It's funny now (she's 8) but OH LORD was it a test of my patience.

Good luck!

Re: The Dog Ate My Baby Name

My sister has a dog named Jack Daniels, and I was *thisclose* to naming my son Jack. Even told my sister that was my plan, she thought it was funny. My husband ended up suggesting a name I liked even better, but we had already circulated Baby Jack and Doggy Jack and literally no one did more than giggle a little and move on :)

Re: That Defamation Suit Against John Oliver Has Been Dismissed, So Let’s Watch His Coal Segment One More Time!

For context, there are something like 75,000 people employed in the coal industry...total. Solar, by contrast, employs over 250,000 people (and is one of the fastest growing job sectors in the country) whose jobs are now in danger because of the new tariffs Trump is imposing.

Re: Dealing with Coworkers’ Inappropriate Pregnancy Comments

I agree with this...YES, it's super annoying to be the target of idle banter with coworkers about YOUR BODY. But usually they're just trying to connect with you over something really exciting. Maybe adopt an aura of "aw, poor awkward human" for the more egregious offenders, and try to let it roll off? If you keep working, you want your coworkers to care how you're doing and how the baby's doing and to look the other way when you leave early or skip out on a meeting because you have to pump or whatever.

Alternatively, time to start practicing your RBF, because I guarantee the comments don't stop once the baby comes. Does he have a hat? Where are his socks? You're breastfeeding/bottle-feeding? The horror! :)

Re: Scientists Seek Approval To Genetically Modify Human Embryos

Because what is an ideal human? Is it male or female? Is it white? Blonde? Who can afford to create "ideal" humans? Rich people who are white and blonde? Everyone is still perfectly able to choose what they think is right for their own kids, now they'll just be required to back up that choice with homeschooling. The days of relying on herd immunity while not contributing to it, of expecting to take part in all the benefits (i.e. public schooling) of our society while refusing to contribute to its overall health, are over. I can only celebrate that decision!

Re: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Movie Review (2013) | Roger Ebert

THIS is what I was looking for, thanks! This was beautifully stated.

One of my clearest memories as a kid was when our family dog died suddenly and I found my dad crying. It was a shock, but in a good way. It made me proud that I could comfort him, and that he seemed to need me that day. Don't feel a moment's guilt about showing emotion to your kids, it's a good thing for them to know Mom is human and also gives them a chance to empathize and nurture you.

I've also been there with my own old man dog - I got him as a freshman in high school, and he was right there with me through many changes and many tears. In the end, he was sick and miserable - when we finally took him in and I felt him relax for the first time in months, I knew it was the right thing. It was terribly hard, but I don't regret letting him go.

Hang in there, and collect all the baby kisses you can!

http://artsyquibblings.blog...

Re: People's Weekly World - How racism sparked capitalisms financial crisis

AND...how do you expect us to believe that racism is a root cause when only 11% of these loans were made to first-time home buyers?

Re: People's Weekly World - How racism sparked capitalisms financial crisis

What about the fact that the hardest hit areas are in the mid-west? These areas aren't exactly known for being racially diverse.
If these statistics are true, this article negates itself by pointing out that sub-prime mortgages were originally created as assistance to low-income families with bad credit. Is it racist to point out that a larger proportion of families that fall into that category are minorities? If it wasn't racist when it was meant as assistance, it can't suddenly become racist because it was mismanaged by wall street.

Re: Milk (Gus Van Sant)

There aren't any films this year that are any better - this is a bad bad year for movies.

Re: 13 Oscars noms for Button?

For realz...Pitt was just relying on being a pretty face, not actually acting; the "love story" wasn't engaging at all - they tried to hard to keep it from being creepy that it was just boring; the whole premise of reading the diary just interrupted the flow of the story. Up until this point, this move was pretty realistic: life is hard, and then you die. It would have been better as a religious film if he chastised them for having no faith and she remains dead. Cuz that's what happens in real life. If I believe in God really really hard, will he give me a pony? This movie says yes, he will.

Re: Ordet (Carl Theodor Dreyer)

I could see the ending coming a mile away, and it annoyed me even more than the ridiculously slow pacing.
