i think we choose to see the problem from two different views. it could be argued that btoh schools of thought are codependent and actually two parts of the same whole.

the one thing i think we can both agree on is that consumer spending and more importantly, job growth is the solution. how does continued unemployment solve the problem?

unfortunately i dont see inflation as being an incentive for hiring. it seems liek companies have found that they can get just as much productivity out the fewer employees so i dont see a slight increase in prices haveing thatmuch of an effect on jobs.
( on the other hand it does burden society as a whole, and it could be said its a burden felt more by the poor than the rich)

but lets look a little deeper and ask where does gov get its money from?
the gov does not have limitless resources and must choose wisely how to allocate the money it has.

instead of creating wealth through job training ( knowldege is an asset) or building infastructure they choose to just give it away through unemployment extensions.
( a panacea for the poor?)
ultimately this adds nothing of value to the economy and actually robs wealth from americans as a whole.

rember that first question, where does the gov get its money from? taxpayers obviously.
are there other ways the gov could have used that money to benifit society as a whole?
(schools employ teachers and teach kids, fire agencies employ fire fighters and protect property, etc...)

you are right that gov should ahve some responsibility to teh have nots, but not at the expence of the haves. there could ahve even been a win-win here if they offered jobs training or more public ( non-union) works projects. we are not on track wiht either of these.

ultimately this is money that will ahev to be accounted for ( either through inflation or higher taxes). these limitless extensions ultimately create a disincentive to work ( see despindles post above about "milking it") and undermine the economy.
