I won't be traveling soon so I am hoping I can earn some points with purchases so my miles won't expire. Will earning points through purchases keep points active?

Re: Calls for Cecil the Lion’s Killer to Be Hanged as Suspects Are Due in Court

I regret that I can only vote this response up once. Definitely change up the way you use your gear. It could even be as simple as going to the art store to get foam core with white on one side and black on the other to bounce and/or cut light.

Re: A Case for Think Tank Photo

I agree. I can't tell you how many headaches I've gotten from carrying a body and three lenses in a shoulder bag. That gear gets heavy after a while.
As a portrait and food photographer, I don't do a ton of active shooting but I definitely don't want to use a shoulder bag anymore when I do.
I like the Urban Disguise for travel but I usually sit my bag on top of my roller suitcase rather than carry it on my shoulder.
I'll have to take a serious look at the Shapeshifter, though.

Don

Re: Photographing Food

It certainly feels like it. Another thing I noticed is that Flickr seems to be a dumping ground for photos whereas 500px seems to be more selective. As one of my mentors said, "Shoot more. Edit more. Show less."

Re: El Niño: Mi Nuevo Amigo

If only I could find someone willing to fund that lifestyle I'd be all over it.

Re: http://www.atlasshruggedpart1.com/atlas-shrugged-movie-trailer

A very well written and thought out essay, Frediano. I fear that we are not there yet and fear more what the world will look like when we do get there.

The fact that AS is even more relevant now than when originally written is a testament to the unheeding, complacent masses. More than ever we are subject to the tyranny of the majority, those who feel that the government and unions are responsible for their well-being.

So what is the self-aware and self-responsible minority to do? How do we stand against the tide of apathetic underachievers clamoring for life to be handed to them?

The question is: Who is our John Galt?

Re: Apple attacks WikiLeaks, yanks iPhone app from app store

Did you purposely forget to add Amazon, PayPal, Mastercard, Visa and Bank of America to that list of businesses to never support? Or does this play into your already established hatred of Apple? I think Apple is wrong but what the other's are doing is far worse. You can still access the WikiLeaks website from your iPhone but you cannot donate to WikiLeaks if you have accounts at Amazon, PayPal, Mastercard, Visa and/or Bank of America. Again, I think Apple is wrong but it is alarming to me that people are more upset about that than our financial institutions telling us where we can and cannot spend our own money.

Re: Apple and AT&T Slapped with an iPhone 4 Class-Action Lawsuit

This is a frivolous lawsuit. If you don't like it, make a stink, get a refund. I also know that the antenna issue is way overblown. I have not had any reception problems (that I didn't have with my 3Gs) in the first week and neither have any of my several friends who have the new phone. No matter how I hold my iPhone, it does not effect the reception.

Re: A New Debate on Blog Comments is Brewing

Chuck, you have a very narrow point of view. Not everyone has the time or resources to moderate or create a way for people to flag abusive idiots. The internet is not synonymous two-way communication. People act like it is a right to comment on what other's have to say. It is not. Everyone wants to take traditional media out of the box and put it in the new media box. Let's get rid of the box altogether. The internet is an open forum where people can pretty much do what they want, including decide whether they want to have comments or not. Let's keep it that way. Don't get me wrong, I like comments. All of my blogs have comments and I love when people take the time to respond. I just support individual's right to run their web site the way they want. If most people don't like it, they will change or loose out. And one last thing, lack of comments has nothing to do with with the troubles of print media.

Re: Acorn Energy revenue jumped 51% — good news for clean coal

Sequestration? Hiding it away for someone to deal with in the future. When are we going to learn? "All of today's problems are the result of yesterday's solutions." Just because the coal is there doesn't mean we have to use it. There is money to be made, for sure, which is why this clean coal fantasy was concocted. I wish Acorn would put more into smart grid technology and less into coal.

Re: Back Up Your Mac

I use Time Machine for semi-regular backups. I also started using Nomadesk for online backup. It also does file sharing and I can sync between my MacBook and my home computer. I can even access my files from my iPhone. Pretty sweet.

Re: Got Disclosures? Many of the same features but more. It work just like a VPN, allows access even if you are offline and has unlimited storage space. It's so easy to use and so far has been very fast and reliable.

Re: If You Aren’t Using DropBox, You Are Really Dumb!

I actually switched from DropBox to Nomadesk. Unlimited storage was a big reason plus the mobile access that Nomadesk gives me is a big plus. If you need security like I do, it encrypts files locally and on the backup server. I don't feel dumb for switching. ;-)

Re: 6 Ways to Share Your Documents Online

I started using Nomadesk for file sharing and backup. One of their big features is security which is important for me as I am sharing private documents. You can set up a file server and invite as many people as you want to access it. You can also send links to people who you just want to share single files. I travel a lot so a big advantage to me is the way Nomadesk is set up so I can work on the files when I'm offline and then it automatically syncs them when I connect.

Re: I’m Using Dropbox to Sync Key Files Across My PC, Laptop and iMac

Ah, fellow Mac user. Yes it does seem to be geared more towards team file syncing, but the unlimited backup was what caught my eye. The syncing has been useful, though. They do have a Mac version and an iPhone .mobi site. I also read that they were releasing an app soon. It's not free but it's unlimited and has been perfectly reliable so it's worth it to me.

Re: I’m Using Dropbox to Sync Key Files Across My PC, Laptop and iMac

I was checking out a trial of DropBox when I discovered Nomadesk. Not only does Nomadesk have 256 bit encryption to the cloud backup, it also encrypts your local files. You have access to your files whether you're online or offline. They also have unlimited storage space. It has all the sync functions and lots of sharing options, too. www.nomadesk.com

Re: Things I learned while camping that make sense in real life

How many times have you had to remember number 3x?
