Yeah, indeed. Mind you, Hepburn *was* linked with Hughes in 1940, but at that time working on "Philadelphia Story" ... with MGM. Get this though. "Divorcement" was also remade in 1940 by RKO (the studio that did "Kane"). Was Maureen O'Hara, about to reprise Hepburn's role, amusing Welles in makeup by impersonating Hepburn's 1932 voice and talking about what Hughes was then likely doing to "her"?

If that Nabokov passage is admissible despite being of completely different character and purpose than McPhee / Wallace, it would destroy all of them. I can recommend 'Levels of the Game' but likely concede that the writing about the playing as such is a bit thin and journalistic compared to Wallace's effusions.

The examples chosen could hardly be worse. It detracts from her point, which is essentially sound. (Why not mention the Zaha Hadid profile in the New Yorker, or worse, http://www.bu.edu/today/201... But expecting a profile of fucking Brigitte Bardot that doesn't talk about how she looks is perverse. Would anyone expect someone writing on James Dean or Brad Pitt to studiously dance around their sex appeal?

The demo versions of the later songs are usually better, fwiw; in the case of "Michaelangelo" and "Not A Penny" this can be a bit absurd, he ruins the song w/ ridiculous arrangement and extra verses in the latter case
