To start establishing some sustainability, perhaps you could look to other, not-so-dissimilar independent content providers: Twitch.tv streamers & NPR radio.

Subscriptions and fundraising drives, and never ending displays of gratitude for the support. (not all streamers do this, but the good ones do.) are how they are funded and I think you should consider doing the same.

It's an interesting phenomenon as to the extent viewers will go to support their favorite Twitch streamers. I think they do so, not only because they like the steamer - but for many gamers, there's a part of us that wishes we were in their shoes (in YOUR shoes too) vs. our crusty 9-5. We want them to succeed, and are willing to invest, because we would want to succeed if we were to ever attempt to do the same.

NPR, one of the best stations in radio period with unique content and segments you won't find anywhere else. They are publicly funded and have no shame requesting donations. They offer recurring monthly subscription option and they do seasonal fundraisers. They're transparent and make it clear that while they do have some wealthy benefactors who help sustain them and keep lights on - the public donations help ensure the content keeps coming, and they stay independent and free of big business ad dollars. That's worth paying for.

Regarding subs: (dollar amounts totally made up - I'm not a numbers guy):

I think there's enough diversity in content consumption preferences to offer both an 'a le carte' & site-wide option.

Some people only come here for one show. No problem. Offer a low cost, show / 'channel' specific subscription for $1.99 /mo to not have to see the ads.

Some people watch everything you churn out (dem GB junkies doh) Awesome. Offer an ad free, all-access-pass for $7.99 /mo.

There there may be legit reasons you've not gone down this path already so I'll leave on what I would suggest and like to see more of. In an odd catch 22 of sorts - the production quality of your site and content is fairly polished, and I think many viewers could easily be under the impression you must be backed and/or owned by a ZAM type entity.

Embrace the fact that financial vulnerability is a thread we all share and identify with. Remind people that you know you need us, and despite the slick look, you're actually an out-of-the basement operation. Keep that donation button up permanently to showcase the fact that the quality comes from passion and skill - not corporate backing. Don't hide the fact that the dream you're all working to make a reality is fragile, and those of us that share that dream will gladly step in and support you during fund raising efforts centered around some GB unique content events.

I wish you all the best in your team's efforts - thanks for all you do - and stay groovy.

Disco

Re: Introducing the WordPress Console

Awesome!
