Hey Katie. That wasn't me, I was just reblogging a friend of mine, but do agree with it. I definitely think there's a role for teachers. But, like I think you alluded to, not in the role that they've become today. With the system becoming so standardized, you can't always have to amazing teachers you speak of. The quality gets diluted just because of the shear need. That said, the technology and information sharing is becoming so ubiquitous that there is really very little stopping people from going out and learning stuff on their own. The role for teachers should really because more of a mentor or a guide as people learn. I think the education system, while adequate for most, is very broken and needs to be fixed.

There's nothing different. It's just a shorter/trimmed up version of what it was before. And appreciate the recommendation, but I'd prefer not to have to head to lakeview to get my hair cut. :)

Totally agree about it not being easier just because you got funding. You're right. You need to work even hard now. But you should also celebrate (have that glass of champaign) because you need to celebrate the little things. It's a momentum and team morale thing.

Well being that one of the supposed purposes of government produced marriage licenses was to help prevent spread of diseases, I guess it makes sense (screening for an std upon being given institutional consent to have sex). But only syphilis?

Oh wow. That's quite extensive. Not sure how much of that I can cover (or provide valuable insight to). What I'll try to do is take the stuff you've suggested/asked about and I'll try to put something together about once a week or so on various topics. Until then, I'd recommend picking up and reading "Founders at Work" by Jessica Livingston. I'm actually reading it right now and it's amazing. It's a collection of interviews with tons of successful startup founders. Super insightful and definitely recommended for anyone trying to learn more about starting a business. Should help a bit with some of the stuff you've asked about. But I'll definitely try to put out some more posts on the topics you've suggested.

I definitely think both types have their place. And I'd be lying if I said I never experienced both types. But I think the key is definitely not to let them control you. To stop you (unless it's something that you shouldn't be doing anyways... like jumping off a cliff).

Completely agree. I've always loved string instruments and wish it would have been an option for me when growing up. Sadly, I got stuck with the tenor sax (not knocking it... it's just not the same).

Totally agree that people are afraid of change. Which is a shame because we should all be continually trying to better ourselves.

I'm a pretty strong believer that being a "grown up" really just means you're able to fend for yourself and able to do the things you don't necessarily *want* to do. It's about being responsible for yourself (and others), regardless of if you think it's fun or not. I don't think my parents or society have gotten it right yet (at least not right for me and my happiness), so I'm finding my own path. If that means I'm not viewed as a grown up in society's eyes, then so be it.
