Considering the author of the piece does more to attack Moby, and David Byrne, also why leave out Patti Smith, or so many of the other established artists who were once NOT that, than she does on rebutting the points made. Or what about mentioning so many of the artists that are loosely affiliated with this outlet who's whole artistic practice is based on this whole very topic?

Actually the piece reads more like a hope and prayer more than an intellectual rebuttal. As if New York can't be dead, New York can't be changed forever because i just got here and where am I supposed to go if im already here and now you are telling me its over? but but but.

Ive lived here for 33 years and this city has absolutely lost something essential that increasing numbers of artists, politicians, thinkers, futurists, and other assholes of note are capturing, again and again and again.

It may be that Hyperallergic feels so embedded here that to declare or join in the discussion about what New York's lost might feel like a betrayal of some kind.

Just got back from Atlantic City. What Phish did on Thursday night was a brave and incredibly vulnerable act. It was beautiful and I was so happy to be there and be a part of it. We got NEW Phish, debuted for us live. Yes, raw, imperfect, but as the band stated in the Phishbill accompanying the show, the fans input will impact the studio process. We'll be a part of these songs as they become finished products. And then the ones that make it into the regular rotation will evolve even further. A tremendous, surprising yet somehow incredibly obvious stunt that caps off an incredible Fall Tour, 30 years in, these guys are producing some of the greatest music of their entire career. They are healthy, happy and the fan base has never been better either. Phish.

awesome writeup man. Sending this too all my friends who love me, and love that I love phish, but aren't into it, for the all too familiar reasons.

I have one criticism: It's about " Rip Cord Red. You write: There are many instances in the last couple of years where, just as a song seems cleared for takeoff, it’s almost as though someone pulls the plug or veers off the chicken path, intimidated by the thought of colliding headfirst into a monster jam.

I am familiar with the criticism and generally speaking, agree that, of late (3.0), there have been promising-"seeming" jams, that are aborted before they get a chance to shine. The other side of this, that I would have liked to have seen mentioned in the section above, is that jams are aborted because someone knows or has a feeling that it may simply not ever develop and that, better to pull the cord now and try again on the next song or set.

I've seen those chords pulled a number of times,to be honest mostly by Trey, on Tube's, on Tweezer's, on Ghost's, and of course I always feel slightly shitty. But I've got trust in the guy that he may know that a particular jam just isn't going to happen.

yeah i mean i love ryder and think he's brilliant but this: ."For instance, imagine making a movie like that—‘This movie has to be liked by everyone.." Uh...this is what hollywood and the TV networks do every day. dumbing original voices down to please a majority, though they end up pleasing no one.

I think that these projects are essential to keeping the web light and airy and a place where fun can provide. But a lot of clients just don't want to hear it. They are businesses with goals. Argh, I guess i need cooler clients.
