I stopped the conversation very quickly, I know where it was headed.

I am always willing to help, but there is a limit to everything, especially when I don't know the person. There are tons of new options that can be very beneficial to anyone. The pages are now much more flexible as well.

@Karen, you can still have your customized landing page. However, FBML will be deprecated soon, so you have to use iFrame. Pagemodo is a great service. You can see how I did it with my Fan Page: http://www.cendrinemarrouat....

@Gsmcmurray, while I agree that the pictures are cropped and look ugly that way, you should just get rid of them by mousing over the pictures and clicking on the cross. I have deleted mine in the photostrip, so that no one sees them.

@Lexkent, you can still suggest to friends. You have to be logged in as you, not your Page.

Re: Three Reasons Why Authors Must Develop Their Own Platforms

Hello Michael:

Thank you for an enlightening post! It is true from beginning to finish. I am a self-published author and have been advising independent artists for years. I tell them the same things. You cannot achieve success if you rely on the quality of your product alone. You need to build a good platform with a solid circle of supporters.

Brand visibility is crucial, and many authors are totally under the wrong impression that talent is worth something these days. If you have nothing to support it, you will definitely blow hot air for a LONG time.

Thank you for the post once again!

Cendrine

Re: 7 Social Media Lessons From Phil Collins

Hello Marjorie,

Thank you for this article! Ok, he had a few hits, he made a name for himself. And yes, he used to be an amazing drummer. However, I have always found him cocky and ungrateful. In social media, these two words don't go well in my opinion.

Your approach is wonderful, Marjorie. It makes me feel much better. English is not my mother tongue and I spend my time reading my articles over and over to ensure that I eliminate as many misspellings, typos and grammar errors. But sometimes, they are sneaky.

This guy told me that I should spell check my writing, as it was FULL of errors. As I am a perfectionist and grammar-correctness obsessed , I had a couple of proofreaders go over my last articles and they were shocked that someone would dare chide me that way. I know that my English is not that bad, after all.

All this to say that I completely agree with your article. A blog is not a book. Articles can be spell checked many times. Typos will always evade us. We are not perfect.

Re: Should You Hire Someone to Proofread Your Blog Posts?

Hopefully, it is. Thank you for posting this article.

"So how much can I make realistic with Examiner.com in one day. Here’s an example:
Refer one person who becomes a writer for Examiner a day – $50Refer one business who becomes a sponsor (like your local library) – $50Writer one local article – $1Expose your article to an audience using Twitter- $1 per 100, $10.00 per 1000, etc
Money made in one day = $101.00 minimum.
Money made in one week = $707.00 minimum."

This is quite unrealistic. Examiner often forgets to pay for referrals, and pays about .55 dollar per page view right now. Their huge pop-up ads are currently killing traffic. Sponsors? You are a lucky one. I have never heard of anyone getting them.

However, yes Examiner is a great way of getting exposure when the pop-ups are gone. Still, it is a long process.

Re: Blog Amplification

Dear Saul:

I came across this article as I was checking my Twitter stream. I started a few month before the major update that occurred in August 2010. So, I can definitely tell the difference between now and then.
While it may be about hard work, it is certainly more about smart promotion. There are ways you can reach your target audience that a lot of Examiners may not know. Another important factor is the type of titles you have. If you write in the A&E category, you are more likely to be read. It is a very different story when you write about very local and specialized topics. Also, I am located in Canada and Canadian Examiners get much less exposure than other Examiners. Even our national landing page is stuffed with American content. Plus, Examiner does not pay $10 per 1,000 views anymore. Right now, it is more like $5 or $6.With that being said, there have been improvements for the last few months. The website is a lot more user-friendly and less ad-driven. As a result, traffic has started to go up again. It is encouraging. Let's hope the upcoming tier payment system will be a new opportunity for us!

Re: Twitter Launches Follow Button: Do You "Like" It?

I really like it!
