iPad in bed is convenient. I tried reading with a 3.3 lb laptop, but reading on one side covers the fan, I worry about the hard disk, and using the keyboard isn't easy in the dark. VNC, RDP, and TeamViewer apps for iPhone work well on the iPad (in 2x mode, Mocha VNC Lite's screen pixels are actual size in a 2x viewport instead of scaled up) if you don't want to get up to control your desktop.

How is this different from using hashtags or joining a Facebook group or becoming a fan of a page? Checking in sounds like following a hashtag. You can check into Avatar or search for #Avatar and read what they wrote. I don't see how this would work if a wine lover wrote about a certain wine without writing "wine" or tagging it with #wine. Facebook should already shows you what your friends post in a group or fan page, but we can't filter fan pages to show just friends.

I'd want to post updates with tags (like checking categories when posting in Wordpress) and then I'd want to follow or filter friends updates by tags. It would be like putting your updates in lists instead of putting people in Twitter lists. I'd be able to filter your updates by tech related news. Finally, if you don't want to tag your updates, I'd want to tag your post or my friends' posts. For example, if you think I posted Republican crap, you could tag it as Republican crap. Google video had an option to tag other people's videos, but ended up with spam and noise. Tags from friends could be different. Amazon allows user contributed tags and counts them. We could use delicious to bookmark your status and tag it if people are still using it.

All of this is really just relating or linking everything. We want to know how two things are related. Tags are not enough. Computers don't know how tags are related to what it tagged to. We'd have to specify tags and why we tagged it. Now, if we could tag and relate an object-relation-tags, we would be have everything covered.
