I like the specification-first approach but I don't think a 'new thing' like TypeSpec is the way to go. Making a brand new specification language which now has to be learned and actively maintained, seems like adding complexity to a problem domain that's already complex. Imho it's better to use an existing language to write the spec files. TypeScript can be a great language to do this because all it needs to do is have a set of functions and types and enable generating valid OpenAPI spec documents, and then write them to JSON which can be read by any OAS renderer like Swagger.

The only way you know that <input/> is acceptable and <div/> isn't, is learning and remembering which elements self-close. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

Another option is to use a type system that enforces it for you :-)

For webapps which generate HTML on the server side, it's almost always better to use a library to do it instead of templating/interpolation/etc. E.g. if I may plug my library for a second: https://yawaramin.github.io...

It's enforced by the compiler:

Yup. In reality almost all applications will be running a goroutine pool to avoid memory leaks. You can see this at work in Go's built-in standard library HTTP server, the application's goroutine count stays pretty stable even as traffic workload increases substantially.

Yes, Rust panics on overflow in debug mode. But they deliberately don't in release mode. I agree, all languages have issues. Which is why it's puzzling that someone who knows this would do a hit piece looking at only the cons of a language, without balancing its strengths or comparing it to other languages to put it in context. If you can find _zero_ strengths in OCaml, I think it's a valid question whether you actually have enough material to write an informative article. If not, it seems like just FUD.

What's bizarre is the selective and unbalanced critique here which hides crucial context. Let's look at Haskell:

minInt :: Int minInt = minBound main :: IO () main = putStrLn (show (abs minInt)) -- Output: -9223372036854775808

Rust:

fn main() { let min_int = i32::MIN; println!("min_int: {:?}", min_int.abs()); } // Output: -2147483648

Come on. Let's stop pretending that OCaml is doing something unique here. It's a known behaviour for machine integer types to overflow. What's next, OCaml floats are broken because `1.1 +. 2.2 = 3.30000000000000027`?
