Nope. There's nothing sensible about my post at all. It's a rant from me to exorcise the demons I collected reading every email forward telling me that FCPX was the end of the world. Again, if you want to read a sensible review of FCPX read the Ken Stone link.

I don't think I've ever used FCP without 3rd party apps (plug-ins) except maybe versions 1.0, 1.2.5, and 2.0. And I never trust n.0 releases of FCP or Adobe CS -- which is the real point of my notes -- especially in a real production environment. I've been burned too many times by both suites. Something always breaks.

The paradigm shift I talk about are the changes in interface and media management. I'm not saying that it works well -- just that everyone needs to give it some time before deciding to abandon ship.

And I haven't played with Smoke on OS X yet but maintained a Flame on Linux install that was very capable (and very pricey.) Smoke is beautiful but feels like a step back in terms of UX to me.

I totally agree with the criticism that Apple botched the launch and that mismanaged expectations considering it's an entirely new codebase. But even if it were FCP8.0 would you really have upgraded immediately?

Heh. The problem with ultraportables is that they have "integrated" graphics which save on battery life but have horrible performance. So it's less about taking away performance and more about providing it as an add-on.

I was going to reblog your post but figured I'd leave a comment instead.

I remember this passage from Code but I think it reads kind of odd out of context. Here, it seems like he's railing against "too much (bad) information" which doesn't seem much different than the old argument that television ruined society. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

But instead he's talking about political opinion polls that place value in the moment by moment reactions of a people instead of getting their opinion after deliberation. To that end, yeah, he's right. We haven't figured out how to rebalance the whole civil society ecosystem. We make decisions on how we want our society to be run based on flawed or purposefully obfuscated information. That's not good. What's interesting ten years later is that we're seeing traditionally well represented populations who are now feeling disenfranchised. Whether that anger is justified or not, that's something that used to be the domain of the poor and the 'fringe'.
