Customer: “Excuse me, where do I go to see your [Brand] TVs?”

Me: “We don’t carry [Brand] TVs.”

Customer: “Of course you do! It’s in your flyer!”

(The customer pulls out a flyer and points at the TV in question.)

Me: “Sir, that’s a [similarly named brand, but nothing to do with the other brand] TV, not a [Brand]. It even has the [similarly named brand, but nothing to do with the other brand]'s logo on it.”

...and so on

I once received an email supposedly from Subway. Before clicking on the links, I did the usual checks, and noticed that there were some red flags (mouse-over of hyperlinks showed a website that did not mention Subway). So I did what I usually do when I have a few minutes to hand, and forward the phishing email to the company being impersonated.

I got an email back that this was not a phishing email, but genuine one. It turns out that their website and email addresses do not include the word "Subway" (at that time; no idea if things have changed). I had to explain to them that they were likely to get a very poor response as they were sending out emails that look like phishing scams.

Normally I find excessive exposition in NAR stories annoying, as it kills the pacing. Here though, I don't think it is possible to explain enough

My old CRT television required some percussive maintenance, whenever the picture displayed what could only be described as "letterbox". To begin with, only gentle taps were required, but over time more and more hefty thumps were needed.

Eventually it was a desperate whack that turned the letterbox into a single horizontal line, and the television into an oversized paperweight.

Can you imagine the stories on this site if every illness was censored?

"I'm I have [illness], which means I'm allergic to [product]. I always ask [workers] if [thing they sell] has been in contact with [product], and generally it is fine. However, this one time [generic shop that sells items with lots of product but also has product-free items] sold me an [item that naturally contains a lot of product] instead of [product-free item]. As I'm being rushed to hospital I overhear the following:
"Worker: But why would [item] contain [product]?"

Seriously, NAR - I understand why you need blank out companies and names, but if the content-to-brackets ratio is too high, the meaning of the story is lost and sadly the joke is wasted.
