This commenting procedure discourages comments. I have tried 3 times to add my comment and the password-verify routine has defeated me. So I have forgotten the charming slash encouraging thing that I was going to say.

Dude, great post. You get a big fat AMEN from me, right on.

That tesla is amazing. For normal people with normal income it's not realistic but it is promising to see, knowing that the technology is there. It's only a matter of time.

I haven't seen one of those CIGS yet, very cool! Imagine incorporating those into building materials like siding and roof shingles. Maybe even a nice jacket with a few USB plugs to juice up my gadgets!

I would have to disagree with this on one minor technicality. If this statement is true:...

"c) The modification of a comment, as long as the original copy is still accessible and the edit is transparent"

...then the original comment would stay intact, right? So the history is still there after the comment is edited.

Let's say hypothetically we're all eating around the dinner table and I blurt out "these mashed potatoes are horrible". Later I feel bad for saying the mashed potatoes are horrible so I fine tune my statement to say "these mashed potatoes taste different, they're not exactly like mom used to make".

The "history" of my first comment is still there, so it's not changed totally. Having said that I think when it comes to "rights" as the term is used so loosely I would err on the side of giving the content creator the ultimate right to delete or edit the comment in any way they wish. After all, first comes the content and the commentary comes as a result of the content. Let's not get that part twisted.

That's freaking awesome man. I'm "going green" too as they call it now these days. Everything from reusing, recycling (still getting to that other "R") eating organic, avoiding harsh cleaning chemicals, etc.. I fall off here and there (*sips Mt. Dew*) but overall I'm doing pretty good.

Daniel does listen, I had a similar experience with him where he responded personally to an email I wrote concerning a feature request.

I'm using disqus on my site right now and love it. I would highly recommend it, if not for the ease of use (copy & paste, voila) then do it for the reasons Micah mentioned above.

Great post. My dad yelled at me the exact same way so I feel you.

I have to agree with Dave a little on #2. Although good general advice in theory, in practice it's probably a case-by-case deal.

One case is the "photoblog" community if you're not posting "one a day" you lose a little bit of your street cred, silly I know. I used to keep up but as you said in #1, I started writing for myself and tried not too worry about frequency. Since then I enjoy posting more.

It's a double-edged sword though, if you're a new blogger, you have 5 posts and you haven't written in 2 weeks then someone browsing your site may pass it up unless they see something in your small collection of writings they find interesting.

I guess the middle ground would be, post frequently enough to have fresh content but not to the point where you're compromising the quality of your content.

Very inspiring post though, thanks for sharing your 3 secrets! *goes to write them down*

Very true. I'd agree 100% with that statement. You can sort of sense when someone is posting just to post something. Sort of like this comment here... Kidding! :-)

Seriously though I like this post (and some of your other posts) because they cause you to think about these things. You got a new reader because you followed the 3 rules, tried and proven!

actually yeah, this probably isn't super high priority or anything. I think it's awesome that people are jumping at the chance to support and integrate disqus into their blogging platforms.

And for those who didn't know, it's really as easy as copy/paste a single line of code. No super messy installs or messing with a database. Disqus does the heavy lifting.

Good coverage, thanks for posting this.

I signed the petition a couple weeks back, very sad story. I moved to St. Louis back in '98 to a place literally 2 blocks from the Brewery. While I'm not a huge bud beer fan (taste-wise), I am a huge AB fan and respect what that company has done for St. Louis all around.

I am concerned with this whole thing and I hope the guys in DC are working hard to find a way to make this not happen.
