The more classic shirting and sportswear (sweatpants, hoodies, sweatshirts) are a huge component of their business and are the easiest to assimilate into different wardrobes, so they've become real bread-and-butter products for retailers with the right clientele.

You have older customers who like the suiting as a little update to their tailored attire, I see plenty of executive women with their handbags and knitwear, and the casual items receive tons of attention in both major retailers and specialty stores that move the needle like SSENSE, Dover Street Market, LN-CC, and their ilk.

This is a surprising, but not surprising move and it's one of those partnerships I never saw coming but makes a lot of sense.

Re: Alden Ehrenreich, Project Runway, Julian Castro, Ariana Grande, Asteroid, Bill O’Reilly, China, Meghan Markle: HOT LINKS

Thanks! Wanting to know more is good, but dismissing a scientific study because it doesn't suit your lifestyle or beliefs is a pretty much the definition of a knee-jerk reaction.

That said, I would be interested to know how your research paper compares in terms of results, methodology, sample size, etc.

Re: Does Rick Owens x adidas Signify a New Chapter in Footwear?

What do you make of things like Y-3 and Adidas's long-standing collaboration with Jeremy Scott? It comes through loud and clear. A lot of Asian fashion is relatively pre-occupied with what's "Western" and "new" and Vogue Korea has always been willing to put forth its own Korean identity front and center without fetishizing it. The adaptations to the hanbok are brilliant (though they DO tread a little too much of the same ground over the course of the story), but it's a fantastic way to tie modern design into tradition and craft. Brava, ladies!

Re: Snoop Dogg disses Girls’ Generation?

Thanks, bruh.

Re: Snoop Dogg disses Girls’ Generation?

It's amazing how much people love reading into things and pretending there is drama. The picture is edited and all you can see are legs and thighs. You normally eat chicken with biscuits. But if all that's shown are legs and thighs, then no "biscuits" are part of the "meal". What I see are a lot of people pointing out the bad example it sets when an officer decides that his post enables him, in any way, to dictate the morality of others.

I thank God for gays, because it makes it so easy to find out who the narrow-minded and weak-willed are. It's particularly puzzling, though, that Christians are always the ones who want to talk about sex. I never saw anything sexual going on in the photo the MSG references. What I see is one soldier who has served his country dutifully and well returning to somebody who is proud of him and overjoyed for his safe return. The last time I checked, that's some real American values right there.

Re: http://www.refinery29.com/t-alexander-wang-lookbook

You really have to take it apart and look at the individual pieces. Alex deliberately has the T lookbooks styled to be VERY concise looks that represent very clear programs within the line, so each look is meant to encapsulate multiple pieces that anybody would buy and wear as separates or to carry several ideas in a single look. Even then, a lot of the looks are very well styled and would look much more "normal" is you just swapped in an alternative colorway for one or two pieces. Now to wait to get my hands on it next fall...

Re: Mary Katrantzou Fall 2012 Collection

It's great to see Mary expanding her range outside of just cocktail and evening with some separates and knits thrown in. Her Topshop capsule collection is bound to get more people's eyes on her work, but if she's concerned with growth (as almost any young designer brand inevitably is), she's going to have to find a way to translate her work into more approachable ready-to-wear pieces. I'm very resolutely against the idea of people watering down their vision for commercial purposes if it isn't necessary, but even people known for their eye-searing colors and outrageous ideas like Henry Holland or Bernhard Wilhelm find ways to inject their aesthetic into a wide enough array of styles and product categories to let buyers curate the collections and introduce them to women in more understandable ways that stand up on their own merits outside the context of a runway show.

Re: http://tumblr.thedailywh.at/post/17166869808

This post is slightly inaccurate:

"A common misconception associated with the plant, because of its status as a state flower, is that the cutting or damaging of the California poppy is illegal. There is no such law in California, outside of state law that makes it a misdemeanor to cut or remove any plant growing on state or county highways or public lands, except by authorized government employees and contractors; it is also against the law to remove plants on private property without the permission of the owner (Cal. Penal Code Section 384a)"

If Mr. Click planted a poppy on your yard, you are well within your rights to remove it (and you could probably sue him for trespassing), but the protection would protect the ad if it were placed on public property.

Re: Thom Browne Fall 2012 Menswear Collection

It's a little hard to understand these clothes unless you understand the subcultures, aesthetic movements, and construction that techniques Browne uses, reuses, and deconstructs. A lot of this is drawn from the tensions between mainstream and subculture as well as that gold mine of teenage angst, popular kids versus the outcasts. If you look at it, though, this is really a study in contrasts: skinny skinny suits and oversized knitwear; ultra-masculine visual tropes and feminine colors; classical tailoring and modern rebellion.

I value and appreciate the visceral, emotional reactions that commentators have to Browne's clothes, but I think it's also important to take a step back and ask yourself what's REALLY going on with the clothes, once you remove the make-up, the show, the models, and all the craziness. Underneath it all, there's a man who is very seriously trying to pose interesting questions and make us re-think what we wear and how it shapes our selves.

Re: Michael Fassbender for Interview Magazine

Ooops.
