I dropped out of Bar Method because of this. I loved getting stronger, hated being told it was so I could look good in a bikini or had to participate in contests for who could do the most classes a week or be a "Bar Star". I just want to be fit and healthy for me.

I used to work on secure computer systems and had many discussions with govt. officials about how they didn't WANT computers to actually be secure because then they couldn't spy on them...

I had the same kind of feeling. Was far more impressed by the Stones and others on Sullivan. Didn't like the Beatles til the later albums. I remember hearing Rubber Soul and thinking that was pretty cool. White album was the best though. But I was much more into my brother's music (Zeppelin, Neil Young) than my sister's (Beatles, Elton John). When I was old enough to buy my own, I think the first ones I bought were Boston and BTO albums. ;^) Hard rocker. ;^)

One CS grad son working less than average wage, one Biochem grad son working contract. I did my part, where are the good jobs? Also note, I'm a CS/MBA but 54 and female -- I get interviewed but get no offers, just so they can say they've considered older candidates...

It's not about being smart, it's about being able to learn. There are plenty of smart people who can't learn to do something new. And plenty of not so smart ones that are really good at learning a new skill.

I had a company I used to work for interview me three times for other positions and then hire someone else. Finally figured out they were interviewing me to say they had considered older candidates, and asked them not to call me anymore instead of playing that game.

My husband lost his mom this morning. She was the last of our parents left and for me it feels like we are really now the "adults". It's brought up all the past losses for me as well. Thanks for sharing your advice and I've reposted it for our friends as well. We all handle things differently and while for some they need lots of support, for me it's mostly wanting to be left alone for a while, especially as I have my family's needs to consider and need my energy to support them.
