Ive one of these lenses. Are there different versions? As I just cannot get that first element unscrewed. I even unscrewed the f ring. Then lost a screw, found a random ball bearing that I cant figure out where it came from and still cant get the thing removed!

something markedly different from the usual London shots. Love them (well most of them, I don't care for the Shard one to be honest) my fave might have to be the Victoria Embankment shot - very nicely done.

It is a very lovely row of cottages, built in the local Cotswold stone that gives a lovely yellow hue in the right light. It is a very small village and hugely popular with tourists - they bus them in. My shot was taken very early morning (link above) pre-tourist arrivals.

Think you are incorrect on the Michelin star, they had one, sold the restaurant, new owner lost the star, and (I believe) defaulted on the payments so also lost the restaurant. Having eaten there last week Michelin status cant be far off being restored.

I think you are doing Juel a disservice. Her point, I believe,
is that advertising, PR and brands go hand-in-hand. If you haven’t the money to
buy 'the brand' then an opportunity like a riot allows you the chance of being
part of the brand – and the coveted ‘lifestyle’ that comes with it, perceived
or otherwise.

I was offered a range of Gallo wines recently for review; I didn’t
accept as I really don’t cover these big wine brands (does any blogger? ANY
writer?). I havent seen what all the writers wrote about Gallo but I did see
on twitter Fiona defending herself by saying she picked the wine as it just happened to be a good match with a
specific food (a curry I think). While not defending the writers for picking
Gallo – a brand universally slated and thus a damn tough job for any PR to get
coverage – it is a huge seller for a reason.

As one of the bloggers involved in the Oddbins case I should
mention that when initially approached any financial gain wasn’t mentioned. The
reason for being involved is to reach a new audience - the blogging world is
oft accused of being insular, writing for other bloggers. It appeared a grand
way to spread the word, get our knowledgable insights out to a wider world. It
seems to be working. It is certainly a unique step for bloggers/writers as I
can't think of any similar collaboration. As in other internet areas the boundaries are becoming fluid...

what a terrible sounding trip; I would be livid if something so badly managed came my way!

I have to agree though that Press Trips should work both ways - I want to learn something new, vino/food/cultural, and in return will write up as much as I can (in addition to tweeting the trip, if given wifi). I too feel quilty if I dont give an equal ammount of coverage in return for the expense. It really annoys me of those bloggers who go on such trips and in return either give lacklustre blog posts or dont even bother writing it up... tarnishes us all I feel.

A fine list overall, cant fault anyone listed, excpet Malcolm Gluck. He isnt active any more and, forgive me if I am wrong, hasnt written for the Guardian over well over a year.

Glad you approve Rob; we had a great time tasting, debating and arguing
over what to include. Some superb wines didn’t make it due to the price
constraints, or duplication of grape or region (I recall several Spanish wines
were chopped because of this) and some of the choices, from the still being refined
new Oddbins list, were also restricted (ie not much choice from some regions,
countries as the wine buyer indicated at the time. She was with us during the
tasting). A wine list is a constant work in progress I guess...

When I was approached to be part of
this there was simply no mention of any financial benefit. I looked at it as a
fun exercise that would put our name in front of a discerning client base. It
was only mooted later that something might come our way depending on sales; but
this wasn’t the reason why we engaged in the project. It was mentioned a couple
of times since but as Paola states - we doubt much will be forthcoming. Margins
are tight for a high street chain and have been cut to bring the case in at
such a great price; making your 'CERTAIN', perhaps worthy of the capitals.
Frankly I find the obsession with 'payment' rather unnecessary. (Plenty of
other writers have substantial tie-ins with retailers, producers, regions and
so on.) But if we do make anything I'll let you know.
