Executives who are not building their personal brand on the web are putting themselves at a disadvantage. Since execs are being googled and searchers are making decisions about them based on what Google reveals, those with no online profile or a profile that does not communicate who they are and the value they deliver will have a harder time sourcing talent, getting in to see clients and establishing partnerships.

Best.
William Arruda

Re: Video is SO Powerful as a Motivator

Video is also the best way to express your personal brand on the web. I love when you speak about personal branding. Personal branding is not about being famous, it's about being selectively famous - making sure everyone who needs to know you, knows who you are and what your unique promise of value is. It's not about telling people how great you are, it's about demonstrating your unique value with everything you do.

When I speak about personal branding (which is daily), I tell the audience about the three Cs of branding. All strong personal brands (and corporate and product brands for that matter) boast these three Cs: Clarity, Consistency and Constancy. Here's a video from Personal Branding TV that explains the Three Cs: http://bit.ly/aGHKRs

Re: 5 Ways to Sabotage Your Personal Brand Online

Thanks, Dan for this. Realtors are so visible in the real-world, but most have not figured out how to use the virtual world to add value to their ideal clients and build their businesses.

In fact, in our data from the online ID Calculator (www.onlineidcalculator.com) we learned that realtors have the lowest online ID scores. Shocking for a profession where visibility is critical to success...

I think there is an amazing opportunity for those who can use social media to own a niche and deliver value to prospects and clients. We have all had similar experiences. I have a friend, Todd Wetmore, who says "If you can't get out of it, get into it." It's easy to get lost in the countless emails and voicemails and meetings ... and years can go by without you noticing. In the new world of work, you need to be thinking about your career every day with everything you do - asking yourself regularly "How is this going to help me reach my goals?"

Thanks for the great reminder, Chris. I hope it makes people sit back today and think a little more about their goals and their careers.

Best.
William
www.reachcc.com

Re: Quid Pro No

Hi Chris,

It seems for some, social media is about quantity and not quality. They want to have the most Facebook friends or the largest following on Twitter. So if they follow you and you don't follow them back or they sign up for your newsletter and you don't reciprocate, they feel they are missing out on the opportunity to increase their followers by one.

It is important to remember in networking (whether virtual or real) quality trumps quantity. It's hard to focus on quality relationships when you hear that Oprah and Ashton Kutcher are in a race to get the most Twitter Followers, but we all have to focus on our target audiences and build strong connections with those who are truly interested in what we have to offer.

Best.
William
www.williamarruda.com

Re: You are Always On

Thanks, Chris.

Companies are finally getting comfortable with their employees actively respresenting the brand. Thanks.

There is an important distinction between distribution (product availability) and communications (getting your message to your target audience). Obviously they are connected - whether we are looking to buy a hamburger or not, seeing the Golden arches is a great reminder of the McDonald's brand.

Sure, we are distributing our ideas (much more easily now thanks to Web 2.0), but personal branding (especially for careerists and solopreneurs) is about communicating ideas and thought-leadership - increasing visibility - getting people interested in your offerings. Jack Welch's book was a great way to create lots of visibility - which supported his offerings - public speaking, etc. So the line between distribution and communications is blurred.

Keep the posts about personal branding coming - love them! Thanks.

Best.
William
www.reachpersonalbranding.com

Re: I Believe Mark Cuban is Right

This is a really important debate which will impact the what information we access and how we get it. What makes this great is the fat that it turns reality into virtual reality. I think the companies and people who get Web 2.0 know how to create connections between real world activities and their social networking plan. And if you delivering a presentation, remember to transfer those real-world personal branding activities into virtual ones: post video clips to YouTube, post your slides to SlideRocket, tweet about your upcoming presentation, list the event on your website, etc. This turns one powerful activitiy into many!
