The beast went down too easy...] Wildhermit thinks to himself as the others go about checking the tower and the corpse.

"I do still have the potion and did not plan on using it until I am pretty sure what it does. The description that D gave us of the potion was invisibility, I want to make sure that is all it does before I try it' The dwarf responds to Ea as he is kneeling down to examine the dead beast's medallion.

He watches as Kavaki steps up and casually removes a claw from the animal before finally speaking up to the group with his concerns. "This seemed to simple. How did a creature that was terrorizing the locals go down as easy as it did? Not to take anything away from our massive half-giant friend here, but in all honesty, Kavaki... Were you expecting such little opposition? I can not believe that what we are seeing is the threat to this area."

[I know not what... So much different from my day to day life enjoying the cool mountain air.]

"We should take the body with us. See if we can find someone that can look at that amulet there, and the beast. I have an idea..." The druid says suddenly stepping forward pulling out his dagger.

Wildhermit pulls one of the feathers out and either rips it free or tries to cut it loose.

OOC: I intend on seeing if this beasts feather shows the same properties as the one shown off in the bar.

Re: Drachen Fire Inn: Inside The Tower, Garrett Who?

OOC: How far away is the "downed" beast and/or the withdrawing duo? Is it close enough for me to toss a flame seed in, Range 10? I am not really aiming for the beast... I am trying to "place" it on the ground for the fire to illuminate the area and maybe give us a better view. If not then disregard and I just shout and get ready.

IC: "Do not hide in the darkness like cowards, come out where we can see you!" Wildhermit shouts as he tosses a Flame Seed (At Will Power, PHB2 Page 85 for ref) into the tower.

The dwarf rolls his shoulders getting ready for whatever may come. [I hope these new companions can hold their own]

Re: Drachen Fire Inn: First Light

OOC: Perception is 13 here, 14 with Lucien's bonus. I will bring up the rear of the party with club and shield in hand.

IC: "I will take up the rear in case whatever we are seeking comes in from behind." Wildhermit says as the others slowly file into the tower.

[Strange times... I have been alone for years... Now I find myself in the company of strangers seeking a creature that we know little about] The dwarf thinks to himself as he starts after the group heading into the tower.

Re: Drachen Fire Inn: Battle The Beast: Round 1

IC: Taking the offered pint Wildhermit slowly sips the ale looking into the woods where the beast had just fled. “I too think the beast must be slain, and this mystery solved. There is more here that we can not see. Either way, I am with you, balance needs to be restored to this area. I feel that this creature will not be the most challenging obstacle that we are facing.”

[Were the three shadowy figures working in concert with the creature? Were they driving it towards us? Are they responsible? Too much activity too fast… Makes one long for his peaceful mountain again…] The dwarf thinks to himself as he surveys his new comrades.

“I feel we would be best served if we set out at first light. I think maybe we should think on what we have seen and how best each of us fits in. As the Tiefling, Human Ranger, and I approached there were three figures in the woods there…” Wildhermit points in the general direction across the clearing.

Nodding towards Ea “The Tiefling here got a shot off and they retreated back into the woods. My concern is this… Seeing the menace that this beast has posed… How did we send it packing after so little resistance? My point is… I think we should be as prepared as we can be for the surprises that are to come. Maybe one of us should take the fallen to the inn as well. A night by the fire would give Mathias here a chance to sober up if he is willing to be our guide.”

Facing Kavaki the druid extends his hand “Wildhermit is the name…”

OOC: Introductions all around so I can use names in my posts from now on :P Bah first encounter and all my little dwarf legs accomplish is running around shouting at people. Wildhermit shouts as he sees Kavaki step into the woods.

"Matthias! Remember who you were and stand strong. You are among kindred spirits." The dwarf barks again as he sees a sword fall from the concealed treetop near the bum. Did they mean this as an attack... What more can happen this evening... More conversation than I have had in years... A mysterious benefactor giving me a potion... We have thus far... Wildhermit=Dwarf=Druid, Ea=Tiefling=Lock, Lucien=Elf=Ranger, Darik=Human=Ranger, and Kavaki=Half-Giant=Fighter? If I got anyone wrong, no insult meant, I just pulled from old posts and may have got something mixed up.

IC: After the momentary shock wears off, Wildhermit swings his shield around from his pack and draws Ursa's Paw as he moves from the security of the inn. Quickly scanning the area, he nods to Ea and begins moving swiftly towards the roaring blaze and the visible half-giant. [Safety in numbers... Or by recent events maybe not. Dwarf... You may be apologizing to your ancestors before this night is done]

"Warrior, I am coming to lend what aid I may" The druid shouts loud enough to be heard as he steps up near the fighter scanning the woods for any signs of movement.

OOC: In case I failed to mention this... Again, I can make no promises, but I will do what I can to see that your good faith offering will be returned. Now if you please excuse me I am going to see what other news I can turn up that may be of use in solving the riddle that this creature poses."

Wildhermit nods to D and Ea and walks back towards Randal at the bar. "Excuse me, Randal is it? Do you know if the two wizards in the rooms up stairs would be up to receiving a guest? I have coin and would be willing to purchase any information that they could provide."

OOC: Not sure of how much light is remaining in the day. Eat it up as needed, but that is me fleshing out where I want the character to go.

IC: “Dylonius, D… I can make you no promises. If the stories and rumors of this beast are even close to true it is not something I would care to tangle with alone. I shall need assistance, and by my estimation the larger the pack the better. As long as what you say pans out and I have no reason to hold anything back, I will do my part to at least bring you my share or a portion of it. Will you be staying here for sometime, so that I can find you upon my return?” Wildhermit asks the wizard studying him and the Tiefling sitting beside him. [I wonder if all he says is truthful. Seems there is more going on here than would be natural. Perhaps this is what has caused my recent unrest. ]
“I had planned on staying in the inn for the evening, but I fear that all this conversation is overwhelming me somewhat. I intend on joining the half-giant and the old drunk out under the stars if there is anything else that you can recall.” The wild looking dwarf rises from his seat and turns towards the warlock. “I am not sure what has called you here Craztok, but it seems that there is strength in numbers. As I mentioned to D here, I am heading out to see what aid I can lend to the half-giant, you are welcome to join.” With that hermit walks from the inn toward the campsite.

Re: Drachen Fire Inn: A Night In The Woods...

OOC: I am going to assume that I noticed the "wizard" in the corner talking to himself, if not... the disregard :)

IC: "Thank you for the information, and I am sorry about the problems with your trade. Please allow me to pay for your meal as a show of my gratitude of your openness" Wildhermit says as he places some coin on the table and rises looking toward the Runed cloaked figure in the corner.

The dusty dwarf walks slowly toward the corner "I do not mean to interrupt but would you be one of the two that have purchased the upper rooms? I overheard that you may be a learned wizard. What is your take on the situation around here? Do you have any insight? Perhaps you have come across what type of beast may leave behind a feather such as the one we just saw?"

OOC: I will not take a seat unless offered. I remember a campaign I ran way back when, where the module effectively made all the existing characters level 0... It was "great fun"... No matter what Fritz has in store I am looking forward to it... This method gives me a chance to further "flesh out" my dwarf druid :)

I want to retcon one of my posts... I said quarterstaff on my lap... I want that to be a club in the shape of a bear claw.. That sounds so much better... Nature skill check?

IC: “…How will we survive the coming Winter? The pelt trade up in Northgate city is hard enough as it is…” Wildhermit hears before the commotion in the inn drowns out the remainder of the conversation.

[A new beast in the area that has enough presence to frighten a pack of half-worgs.] The dwarf thinks to himself before focusing on the hunter and speaking up. “You say your pack is scared of this beast which produced that feather? How many hounds do you have in your pack? Have they had a run-in with the beast? How long has this thing been menacing the area? Sorry for butting in, do not mean to pry, but you have gained my curiosity…”

OOC: I will attempt to keep the conversation going asking about his pelt trade, any missing locals other than adventurers, and if he has found any tracks around his homestead.

Re: Drachen Fire Inn: Dungeons And Dragons PBP: Adventurers Welcome

OOC: I think I will have to filter all my posts through Docrailgun... He put mine to shame and nicely done too. Here goes an attempt to try a little harder, forgive me I am rusty... Been a while... Going to [ ] my thoughts and " " what I say out loud... I normally make this clear as I write, but in case I grow lazy or negligent, there you go Fritz.

IC: Clad in the dark grey wolfhide of a one time "friend', with his quarterstaff laying across his lap, Wildhermit sat with his back to the wall and enjoyed the warm stew. It was overly seasoned by his estimates, but he had been living off the land for long enough that it was probably just him that thought so. He ate slowly, savoring each bite listening for some clue as to what drew him here.

From his vantage point away from the door and near the stairs the burly dwarf watched as the inn slowly drew in one visitor after another until it was far more crowded than it had been. [A lot more people that I have seen in quite a while] he thought to himself.

[Is that a Tiefling? Never seen one of them folk] He observed as the warlock declined the bum and approach the bar.

Moments later a half-giant who seemed to be in good spirits came in and joined the bum on the floor with enough food to satisfy several. He listened briefly as they shared stories focusing on the the topic of the banner despite the fact he was not willing to inquire himself. The wild looking dwarf had been among the animals far to long for conversation to come easy and he realized that eventually he was going to have to make much more of an effort if he was to prove himself useful.

The door opened yet again as a cloaked figure walked in throwing back his hood to reveal his human features. Wildhermit observed his brief exchange with the bum on the floor and how he crossed by the half-giant on his way to the bar. He chuckled to himself thinking that this must be the destitute man's lucky day as he overheard the newcomer pay off some of the bum's debt. How much he could not know, but the generosity was obvious none-the-less.

[At this point, why bother with the door] the dwarf thought when he noted yet another individual enter the inn. [I wonder if those two know each other] He observed as there was similarity between the previous human and this new elf in addition to the timing of their entry.

Wildhermit finished his stew and nursed his ale as he continued to listen to the various conversations wondering where this feeling of his was going to lead.

Re: Drachen Fire Inn: Dungeons And Dragons PBP: Adventurers Welcome

OOC: If I overstep my "bounds" in my posts feel free to ignore... DM's perrogative and all. I envision Wildhermit to look like a dwarf version of Grizzly Adams. I see him viewing life like a native american would. Being a druid he is not a nature loving hippy type, he has no problems killing an animal as long as he needs to, and he will use it all wasting none. I inserted an image I found on the web that more less is what I see my character as... just a little more dwarvish. If I may... My character hook would be perhaps be being attuned to nature as I am, living in the mountains in the woodline either I had a vision, or just a feeling that something was going on.. Just a thought.

IC: I will approach the bar and secure a room for the night and order an ale, bread, and stew. Assuming there are tables and not just a bar, I will take a seat at one of the ones that lies on the perimeter. I will just sit there enjoying my warm meal while observing my surroundings listening to the various conversations but not with enough focus to show overt interest, merely trying to acclimate myself to having people around.

Re: Drachen Fire Inn: Dungeons & Dragons Play By Post Game: Adventurers Wanted!

Ok Fritz, I have my character done up in a sheet I found online. I think I got all the stuff right. Name will be Wildhermit, A Dwarf Druid (Guardian). I have not selected Magic Items yet, would you like me to use the blurb from Page 143 of the DMG as a guideline? Other than that, I have the rest done.

If it is ok, my son (he is 12) would like to roll up a toon as well. He has his own e-mail account or I can just tag his replies onto mine.

Really looking forward to this, we have been trying to join a group for a while now, but most play on a night we can not make it.

Brief Bio (mind you I am no writer...) Wildhermit has left his given name behind and prefers to live among the animals of his mountain top home. He loves the trees, the open air, and just the peace away from normal society, dwarven or otherwise. Appearance wise he is 4 foot 8, 49 years old, and although he has spent a considerable time alone he does not mind company. He prefers his dwarven form, but when he shifts he is normally a reddish brown bear than fades to black near his paws. He has a calm demeanor, slow to anger, but much like a bear, once roused does not stop until the threat is over.

Re: Drachen Fire Inn: Dungeons & Dragons Play By Post Game: Adventurers Wanted!

Fritz... Long time lurker here... I am very interested. How do you want us to "roll" our stats? I do not have the PHB in front of me but I think there are like 6 options? You mentioned the core set, does this include PHB2? If so I will have a shaman to you this weekend and hope there is still room.

Re: Warhammer 40K Editorial: Building Lists Last?

I own and "play" most of the "plastic" armies in 40k. I have small 750 - 1500 point lists written up for them all, and they were built to have just enough to hit 1500.

My primary army is orks. I have all sorts of lists made up at various points levels for orks. I prefer to have pick up games or just play with friends in my garage/man-cave. Whatever points value my opponent wants to play I just randomly select one of my lists. They cover such things as all boyz, 15 deffkoptas, boyz and grotz, Speed Freakz, to my "tournie" lists. I just play for fun and enjoy the randomness of the lists... It is a surprise for both me and my opponent.

Re: How to take better photos

I did it man. Finally something where I can see how others are doing it. My Light Box has helped but I think the problem I have now lies with my outdated camera. It is a pocket camera, great for vacation... Not so much miniatures.

Re: Grunge or Clean?

I let the "army" decide. Orks, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Chaos I am all for Grunge. Space Marines, IG, Tau, Eldar... I like clean better. As a former soldier, I know that clean equipment is reliable equipment. In Iraq I cleaned my gear up daily. It sucks but but becomes routine. Having said that, I have seen some amazing weathering from quite a number of people... so whatever works I suppose.

Re: Light Box Incoming

I will get a before my new toy and after my new toy image... I have fielded 15 sentinels before... I field 15 deffkoptas quite often... I am working towards 9 killa kans... I just love insane lists. I can be competitive if the mood hits me or the gauntlet has been thrown down, but there is just so much fun in a list like this.
