The more I think about this movie, the more I love it. Can you imagine that last chapel scene being played for a German audience? The dimension of passively allowing the sick revenge would be even more uncomfortable! And perhaps there's no God left to preach about because humans have successfully mastered God's one function--instilling fear and inflicting punishment. Perhaps.
