Also, the mileage can be a bitch, too - I sold my 2 years old Prius (that I bought new) with 90K miles on it (and no, I am not a taxi-driver :). I already gave up on it though - every single minor thing was breaking up.

Re: Beware of Ballers on a Budget

Fair enough, although plenty of people will argue that "very nice car" does not apply to 5+ years old ones. :)

I would guess 25K miles is something 2-3 years old and 50-60% seems about right. You've been pretty lucky I should mention. I have had major issues ($1,000+ in repairs) with cars that are 3-7 years old (some of them I bought new and variety of makes - BMW, Toyota, Audi, etc). That's my luck.

But you are right - this is discussion that has no right answer and plenty of wrong ones. :) Personally I found myself never driving the same care for more then 3-5 years, no matter whether I'm buying it new or used.

Re: Beware of Ballers on a Budget

Lease v. buy is controversial :)

For example, you can lease a $55K car for 2-3 years for under $600/mo; buying a $45K car will cost you close to $800/mo for 5 years. Then it's a simple math.

In 5 years you never worried about maintaining a leased car (or maybe tires just once). You paid $36K for driving new car with $55K price tag and keep nothing.

In 5 years you probably replaced tires at least twice and had one or two services that costed you $500+ on a purchased car. You paid $45K, but the car is worth probably less than $15K. It's pretty likely that if you sell it, you are pretty much even.

If you keep it over 5 years owning makes more sense, however, it's more individual - some people enjoy driving and owning nice cars, other don't. There is no one-fits-all model here. In the end, how you feel about it is what matters (as long as you can afford the "look" of course).

Re: FIPLAB: Bootstrapping An App Startup With No Programming Experience – with Rishi Modha & Anirudh Sharma

Inventing something doesn't automatically make you successful.

Being able to monetize something (even if it's a copy-cat) gives you better chances to succeed.

I think you are missing the point - this is just beginning of the story for two guys. No matter what you are using as a jumpstart, as long as it gets you closer to your "world domination plan" is good. I doubt that their "world domination plan" is "copy-catting".

Re: This Is Why I Want To Have A Paid, Premium Section Of Mixergy. First off, I'm cheapo, so I'll probably pass on paying. :) And I typically view your interviews live or right away anyways. But I think it's a good idea to charge for access to archives. However, $24/month sounds a little bit high for only archive access. Add some more value (seminars, books, forums, support, ... - you name it), or put the price on the lower side; and it's good to go. The best of luck!

Re: Angel investors reply back

Never been there, ant never heard anything good, except for some specific people associated with Keiretsu. However, it's rather time consuming and a mess for those cases when you're unfamiliar with the process. Yes, you don't have to have a CA Registered Agent, but I choose to. I might move out of my apartment, I don't have an office, and I'm not really have "open doors" during normal business hours. Anyway, the necessity of having an RA is not straight, but I found useful for me.

Quote: An agent of service of process or "registered agent" is required for all California corporations, LLCs, limited partnerships, and limited liability partnerships; and for foreign corporations, LLCs, and LPs registered to transact business in California. The registered agent is the person designated by the entity to receive service of process - that is, to receive the summons and complaint (notice to the defendant of a lawsuit) - when served by the plaintiff(s) or their process server in order to notify a corporation or LLC that a lawsuit has been initiated against it. Because corporations and LLCs are legal entities, they can sue and be sued, but natural persons must act on their behalf when prosecuting or defending a lawsuit.

Many owners of small California corporations and California LLCs designate themselves as their company's registered agent. Doing so is perfectly acceptable, but those serving should be aware that the name and street address of the agent for service of process is a public record, open to all (as is the corporation's principal office address). One can also designate a friend or business associate to serve, but that person must agree to serve as the California registered agent, must reside in California, and should not overly concerned about their privacy (i.e., not in the public eye, and without a history with stalkers or similar unwanted personal attention). The registered agent selected should also be diligent and reliable, as the failure to notify the corporation's officers - or the LLC's members or managers - of the fact that process has been served on the corporation or LLC, may result in a default judgment being entered against the entity or other adverse legal consequences.

(c) http://www.incorporatecalif...

Re: How to incorporate startup in CA?
