You lost a customer. Sound Publishing set the rules for commenting. You have the ultimate decision whether or not you feel the comments are appropriate. Discussion of any sort, anonymous or not is very important. Discussion sometimes sway ones opinions or at least enlightens one to someone elses beliefs or ideas. It is sad that you feel that you need to censor these discussions. We played by your rules and I guess that isn't good enough. Now you want to remove the one way that some of us have to discuss issues or thoughts. It makes it look like you just aren't happy with people discussing things or want to discourage any negative ideas you don't agree with.

Why is my name more inportant than my opinion? WNTimes knows that it won't receive near the negative comments that they do now if they do this. It is a form of censorship. If they make it harder to post negative comments, everything looks rosy when they don't receive them..

Maybe I sit on a government board and this is the only way to voice my opinion and not lose my job. Maybe I work at a community facility and don't wish to be approached at work. Maybe I own my own business and don't wish to be black balled. Maybe I work for the public and can't afford to be fired because I have an opinion. Maybe I live in a close communiity and want to stay surreptitious......

Thank you WNTimes for squashing the comments you don't care to hear.

I appreciate the fact that you are impartial and want all the sides to come through, not just the ones you agree with. (LOL)

Although I disagreed with many, it was a forum to voice opinions without having to worry about recourse (as loing as you played by the rules that WNTimes set up) I often enjoyed reading comments from others even ones I disagreed with. It makes one think about opposing thoughts and views. It can also change ones opinion of issues if you hear from others.

Way to go WNTimes....caving in to a few who don't like hearing views that they don't have.

After the 17th....WhidbeyIslander will no longer read or support the WNTimes or South Whidbey Record. I will be canceling my subscriptions as well. There are far too many more and better sources for news.

I don't understand why every feels like I need to pay for someone else recreation. You are right though, if you vote no then you are a old person/young person/disabled person hater. All I ask is that the pool be self supporting, like any other recreational activity. Please don't ask me to pay for your bowling or hunting.

What I think is sad is that the School system knows what will be on the test and tailors their lesson plan to "assure" that the students will be able to pass the tests. so why are the children scoring so low?

You and I agree on this. It is a want not a need.

All I am asking is that the pool be self supporting. You can list a hundred other recreational activities that are self supporting and not taxpayer funded. Why should swimming be more important than skiing or bowling? It boggles my mind. The only people that are up in arms are the people that don't want to pay a higher admission fee to do what they enjoy. I enjoy a lot of activities and I pay to do these things. Ever outfit a child to go skiing or golfing. If you want to do it....pay for it. That is all anyone is asking. I want the pool to be there in case I choose to pay the fee and swim.

If I plan to use the pool, I would pay fair market value to use it. Other recreational activities cost much more to do. Why do some find it unreasonable to pay 10-15 bucks to go swimming. If public funding goes away there are two choices. Close or charge a higher rate to cover their expenses. Free market will dictate their success as a business.

Why should I pay for you to swim. Are you going to pay for me to ski, kayak, skeet shoot, canoe.....?

It is recreating. You do it, you pay. The pool should be self supporting.

Like any business, if you can't collect enough revenue to cover your expenses you won't be in business long.

Observations I have made over the last two weeks.......

I caught an early ferry leaving the island. IT pulled up and delivered...no one. The ferry arrived and IT left with no one. Interesting...during peak commuting time.

I followed an IT bus up the island. I pulled off at a couple of stops and watched who was riding. I counted 2 people that were obvious commuters, 2 that were probably getting up the island, and 6 teenagers / 1 BMX bike.

As with all votes, I look at it objectively. How will this affect me, my family, and my community. Based off that I will render a vote.

If a levy was in question today I would vote NO to one. That is a blanket though. It really would depend on what/why they were asking for.

I love how a short time ago we were discussing how gutted IT would become if taxpayers didn't pony up. While this was happening Ms. Rose was planning on her expansions vision (since 1997).

She gave a sob story to the voters about needing money and meanwhile she was planning how to spend the 17mil grant. Nice!!!

Smells like something to me.....and I don't want to step in it!
