He would be shocked at how many white democrats are from the south (and who can tell what kind of accent they have sometimes). He also hasn't paid much attention to Illinois politics recently where DC politics greatly rub elbows with who was chosen. Maybe his fantasy of what DC politics should be doing runs hard aground against reality and TV fiction. I am not much of a Spacey fan and have a tendency to downgrade stuff he is in. I think Kornacki may just be in the same boat, throwing up questionable objections to the show to justify the fact that he just doesn't like Spacey.

Re: Scripting News: How to reboot RSS

I would assume that this post was linked to in Twitter. Didn't see it there, yes, I follow Dave. But, I did see it while catching up on news through Google Reader.

I find Twitter only good to see what the newest news is if I can first filter it out from the noise, both non-news tweets and news about stuff I don't care about. On the other hand, I specify exactly what sources of news I want to read via RSS and can read that news when I have time and not worry about missing a burst of tweets about a news piece that I missed while out grabbing food.

Re: Rights and Responsibilities of Bloggers and Commenters

I look to edit others' comments only to the degree that I specified: clarity, civility, and accuracy. The ability to only accept or reject comments leads to a lot of comments getting rejected that otherwise would have been allowed if the blogger has the ability to make minor edits such as deletion of a bad link or vulgarity - edit clearly marked. I really don't like rejecting a comment that can move a discussion along but has some objectionable item that could be deleted without changing the overall comment's meaning.

I would really approve of the ability to edit, subject to the commenter's approval - sort of like what the New York Times does.

It has to be noted, the comments appear in an RSS feed, etc as supplied by Disqus but those comments are out of context, bereft of full meaninig. The comment is only complete within the context of the blog it was made on. It is part of the blog and as such, reflects upon the blog owner. As such, the blog owner must be able to have editorial control over those comments or loose control over what the blogger is trying to do on the blog.

Re: what happened to editing comments???

I am really struggling with this issue and am ready to remove Disqus from my blog. With only two choices, allow and block, based on past experiences on other forum/blogs, I will end up blocking a lot of comments that I would have otherwise allowed if I could make minor edits. I do not want to totally block comments just because they felt the need to throw in some disallowed html pointing to a YouTube video!!

I understand the desire to encourage comments but certain topics often lead to "heated" comments that may contain some great content but obscured by emotional outflow that is antithetical to the whole environment that we are trying to establish on our blog.

Re: Better WordPress Admin Integration

At least have a link to Disqus in there that goes quickly to the dashboard. Also, as we moderate all comments, it would be nice to see in the WordPress Admin the number of comments that need to be approved.

Re: SnapShots Addition for an Interesting Experience

Note: Snap Shots will be disabled by the FireFox Extension Adblock Plus so you will not see this feature unless you specifically add it. I understand the desire to block ads, and Snap Shots does present ads, so it is OK to let Adblock keep blocking.

Re: Added Disqus for Better Comments

Yes I do. :)

Re: Disqus Gives Life To Blog Comments

I think a lot of us listened to Net@Night and have implemented Disqus. I did so on my blog as well and wrote up my take on it.
