Adam-you have summed up to the letter how I feel about using Windows Phone, and why I am very content with my 920. As a matter of fact my wife and two kids are toting Lumias, too. We get great use out of the Family Room feature.

Great job, Taylor! I am a very happy WP user after sporting iOS through v. 6. I think you are spot on with the benefits and challenges of both systems. I have enjoyed both. My only complaint about ios is that I got bored with it. I am liking this growth time of WP, and the novelty of the converging Windows ecosystem, but I can imagine getting restless again, particularly if development starts to really stagnate. Then it will probably mean a switch to the next new thing, which for me would be Android.

Interesting and helpful observations, Taylor. In order to make the switch to Windows Phone, I have pretty much let go of the Google universe. If I were married to Google apps, I would share your frustration. However, in a manner similar to Adam's in the comments, I have thoroughly enjoyed the emerging Microsoft ecosystem. SkyDrive and Office are essential components of this, as is the linkage to Windows 8 on the desktop.

I am eager for the updates coming soon, but have found the overall functionality of my Lumia 920 makes it the best smartphone I have owned thus far. At the same time, I wonder how I would feel after living with an Android flagship for 7 weeks?

I jumped at the my terrific yellow 920 on contract, so I will have to wait on the 1020 for now. But it looks like just the right phone for me, for all of the reasons that the pocketnow team has already mentioned.

Nice article, Taylor. I see you point on a number of levels. One area where I am left wondering is the observation of the lackluster reception to Windows 8. Sure, I have heard some grousing about changes in the OS, but I have heard many people say they like it. One almost universal observation: "Darn! It just makes me wish I had a touch screen!" I believe that as Windows 8 grows in distribution, (and it will), we will see all PCs become touch screen machines. As that happens, Windows Phone will start to make even more sense to users. Watch for it!

When I was in the Apple ecosystem, I very much appreciated the OS updates and bug fixes. I would say that feature fragmentation is not as much of an issue with me, as long as the company shows reasonable commitment to support the phone throughout its useful life. My old iPhone4 (my daughter is using it now as an ipod!) is still getting OS updates in iOS 6. Good job, Apple!
I don't have any problem with the fact that the phone did not get Siri, and will not get features coming out with iOS 7. There will always be the latest and greatest coming out next.

Well said, Adam. This isn't a fatal flaw for me, because music is not my most pressing priority. But I AM very disappointed with the music functionality lost since I moved over to a Lumia 920.

Joe - this article is a prime example why I think you are a great resource for news and information about Windows Phone - even though you are the "Android Guy.". Nice job.
Frankly, when I saw the original headline in various other places, I didn't click through because I was pretty sure I knew what Gates meant (and I did).
As to the click-bait issue...Perhaps adding "...or did he?" to the title might had staved off the controversy, but I am much less concerned with all of that than I am with the quality of the content in the articles I read. Provocative titles catch attention, but solid CONTENT is what really promotes readership. It only takes one visit to a site that delivers bad content, and I am gone forever. I return to pocketnow time and time again because the content is. just. that. good.
