When the economy improves welfare goes down and employment gos up. Whilst I understand peoples annoyance at someone getting "something for nothing" the types of work that they suggest they should do for their welfare tends to be a job that we would normally pay for and therefore taken out of the market. I think most Governments do this to hide the real problem as statistics show this does not really improve peoples chances of getting a job.

Currently in the UK we have big retail companies that are making huge profit taking workfare placements where they do not have to pay for the employee, nor does the employee get a wage. If the work is there they can afford to employ. These are also the types of jobs that traditionally part time and seasonal workers (such as students) would have been able to take.

So I think the sentiment might be OK but I'm not sure that it is the right approach

Re: Win a Copy of NoteSuite from AppStorm!

And here is my social network share too https://twitter.com/WaveyDa...

Re: Win a Copy of NoteSuite from AppStorm!

I just need to organise myself. I have thought about both but there are a couple of reasons why I don't at the moment

- Firstly when subscribing many devices will only allow a few calendars on exchange. I subscribe and I think it is best as I tend to split Practice, Quali and Race days out sometimes with individual races as they get near to the dates
- Secondly it takes time
Never say never though, I might split Cars and Bikes at some point and one day I'll try and work out if there is a smarter way.

All the best, dunno if either of you are prolific Tweeters but I'm Waveydavey001 over there

Re: Silverstone GP2 and GP3 – Is There Life Before F1?

Having attended events like the Day of Champions for MotoGP and enjoyed
open paddocks for BSB and British Touring Cars I did also think that
might be the case for the support race paddock. Even if this was not for
Race Day I thought maybe Friday and possible qualifying. Noting the point by
Will Buxton, the closest we came to F1 technology was at Goodwood
Festival of Speed last year. There we saw Sam Bird and even if we don't
watch GP2 all the time we are allways interested in his progress. It is
how fans grow and adds to the whole show.

It was a great shame and a bit of an underuse of Silverstone facilities.

Even more simply the MotoGP put buses on around the perimeter for us humble fans who don't have the cash or contacts to live the high life. I imagined that this would be impossible when you had a capacity crowd of 122,000 but did think that it might be possible to use the Copse Tunnel to wander infield and across towards Arena/Village (whatever it is named this week). Even that wasn't possible and a total waste of the facilities

Re: Malaysian GP: Why Penalise Lewis Hamilton?

Why any penalties at all for a racing incident? Why spend an enourmous amount of time introducing technologies that allow overtaking because there is little in the sport and then penalise a driver who trys to overtake and a driver who (in a previous lap) tries to defend.
There was nothing stupid or malicious from either driver, just racing (albeit with a mistake or two). It wasn't as if it benefitted either driver (particularly Alonso who I don't even like). Once again the off track decisions seem more important than on track racing.
Compare and contrast to the MotoGP last week or the previous WSBK round where there were incidents in the qualifying and races but they were dealt with adequatley and sensibly by riders and officials both. Is it just huge amounts of money that turns F1 into something that is closer to a legal drama than a race?
I'm not trolling, I promise. I watch every F1 event and am paying large amounts to go to my home F1 race. It is just that I like to see racers race and take a risk or two.
Great race BTW, hope we get more like it.

Re: MotoGP, World Superbike, British Superbike and F1 Calendars

Thanks, will endeavour to add and update entries with more info as I get time

Re: Dell Streak goes Android 2.1

I'd like to win this out of pure curiosity. Is it a big phone or a small tablet? Also I have yet to play with android and am a little too dependant on Apple at the moment. Would I lose the ease of Apples walled garden and its million different twitter apps or would I find everything I need just on the web or in the Android app market. I may discover that the web is perfectly adequate :)

Re: Symbian-Guru.com Is Over

Big news, best of luck to you both. Always enjoyed reading your articles.

I came into Symbian and Nokia with the N95 an awesome piece of technolgy with awesome software that I believe was truly groundbreaking. Whilst I dabbled with other bits and pieces and had the real 'big' internet on my home PC & laptop, the N95 opened up social networking, blogging, maps and gps and even digital photography as it gave me a camera in my pocket every day. Brilliant.

Problem is I also left Nokia after the N95 as nothing really seemed like a step forward. Sure I advised Mrs Wavey on an E71 which is lovely but not for me (and she just wanted a phone that worked out of the box).

I moved to an Apple iPhone 3 and can honestly say I've missed nothing but the Camera, (solved now by the iPhone 4). Apps tend just to work are plentiful and you don't need to follow dozens of blogs just to resolve set up issues. For the odd few you consider buying, they are a fraction of the cost of a symbian app. Meanwhile for freinds who have Nokias, some on my reccomendation, I continue to help them resolve issues (often having to tweet for help)

I understand the walled garden thing, I really do, and some people just need the ability to fiddle don't they? I guess that is where Android or Jailbreaking comes in.

I love the look of the N8, really do, and considered getting one. If there is no apps, little support and the touch screen is anything as laggy as the X6 I played with yesterday I probably won't.

Sad days, but as the post above shows it isn't all bad at Nokia. I think this is all a blip (albiet a large one) and look forward to bigger things for Nokia and Symbian

In the meantime enjoy the ride you two and all the best in what you do for the future.

Re: Setting Out for a Win- The #TwitClan Way

I've only just caught up with this. Sort of amusing so don't worry about it too much

The reason why I find it amusing is twofold

Firstly I follow a lot of the Twitclanners, am a daily (throughout the day) user of Twitter and an occasional user of Dabr and yet I wasn't one of those 746. I therefore (a) surmize that there was no spamming or even over exhuberent advertising of this competition (b) apologise for not voting for you

Secondly I think it seems highly appropriate to use Twitter (and twitter based clients) for a Twitter competition. I'm guessing that was kind of the point of the Competition, for microsoft to reach a huge audience. It is only this 'controversy' that has drawn my attention to it LOL

Well done guys.

Re: Vinyl Records at 1000x Magnification

Looks like "Walking on the Moon" to me

Re: Ho Ho Ho! A lot of people seem to be commenting on Twitter usage at the moment. Perhaps it is because it is reaching some kind of critical mass. The fact that I came here from Jaiku says a lot. It isn't that I'm not using Twitter, I'm forced to because of the mass migration in that direction. It is because even with a small amount following me and a small amount I'm following, I find it difficult to follow and participate. I've mentioned elsewhere that the Twitter Tools are created out of necessity to try and solve its shortcomings.
Over the past month I've noticed more and more celebrities, more Newspaper Journalists and more companies saying 'follow me on Twitter'. This seems to be an indication of what Twitter might become - a place to shout not participate. Meanwhile other micro-blogs seem to be dying slowly.
Thats it from me, but if you want to follow me on Twitter I'm... (only joking)

Re: Help - The problems of relying on a service

Thanks for the response. My memory is pretty rubbish sometimes. I remember requesting an invite or something from a forum direct before it closed up a bit (I think).
On point (2) I remember looking at this once before. Remember how I said some stuff was too techie? I'm not dismissing it, I need to look again because I haven't done my research. From the sample site It looks like it would keep my blurb together, but I need to keep my contacts blurbs together as well and respond. La Twit does that for Identi.ca and Twitter on the iPhone, but I still can't follow a conversation very well.
