Although Syn'ik shows off her masters (Swan, Tiger, Mouse, Ox, and Dragon), she assumes Kyoko is beneath them and sends a lesser group to take care of the task.

Kyoko, not working for Morgan anymore, is attacked by Syn'ik's assassins. She defeats them assuming they were sent by Morgan, who she then confronts. He denies involvement and instructs his employee, Lynx, to keep an eye on her and protect her. He does seem to have a soft spot for Kyoko, and does not want to be on her bad side.

Later, she encounters Swan and after an epic battle is about to be killed when Lynx saves her. We learn that Lynx knows Swan and informs Kyoko that Morgan is not responsible, but that she is in grave danger.

We hear Lynx's origin. He was trained with Swan and the others by Syn'ik. We learn that Syn'ik can hit pressure points which explode a few seconds later. One of Lynx's assignments was on behalf of Morgan who ended up hiring him full-time.

Later, Tiger, who uses sabers, attacks Kyoko. She defeats him then heads home. Ox and Dragon watch from the rooftop of an adjacent building. Mouse, quiet as her name implies, surprises Kyoko with a kick that seems to have broken Kyoko's neck with a loud pop. Mouse waves to her watching colleagues indicating mission accomplished.

The celebration is premature as Kyoko surprises Mouse having mimic'd a neck-break sound to throw her off. Mouse uses a smoke bomb to disappear and Kyoko is on the defensive. Kyoko's cat Lucky joins the fight and they knock Mouse out around the time Ox show up. Dragon is focused on making a mysterious call. Together with Lucky, Kyoko fights and defeats Ox. Lucky very proud of the accomplishment.

Dragon eventually shows up, impressed with Kyoko's abilities, but is ultimately taken down, as well.

Kyoko, injured from the battle, enlists Roc (Kyoko's friend Joan Harlowe's bodyguard) to put her enemies in a crate and ship them back to Japan.

The 3 issues end with Kyoko wanting more detail from Lynx about Syn'ik. Syn'ik quite angry with her students. And Kurokami even more intent on revenge than ever.

Re: Raiders of the Long Box: SHURIKEN

I still have hard-copies of the scripts. The storyline with Syn'ik would have been the next 3 issues of Shuriken's original run. I'll have to re-read the scripts to give a proper recap.

I still have copies of the art for the first 8-page backup story about the origin of Syn'ik that was going to run for a number of issues.

Re: Raiders of the Long Box: SHURIKEN

Was awesome to see this! I wrote a few of the Blade of Shuriken issues with Reggie. Great times then. I have the exact same thoughts regarding the anime version of the character.

Re:
Under Deconstruction: The State of Shopify’s Monolith

Slow and steady work. Our developers though all realize the impact although we still have a long road yet to go. Would love to compare notes with Shopify. The Packwerk tool is something we're definitely interested in checking out. Not sure if you folks use our cobra_commander gem.

Re: Howdy from Texas | Wildbit Blog

Best of luck, Garrett.
