Ron Ron, you are wrong. Depression runs in my family and people who have, including myself, have been helped tremendously from anti depressants.
Being in the grips of a depressive episode, that can last for weeks or months, is hell. It is impossible to concentrate, to function. Your perspective is totally skewed. For some crying all the time. For others it is rages. Living with depression is existing, not living.
Several years ago I was put on a drug that has given me a real life. I am not artificially up or down. I just feel normal. To someone with depression, feeling normal is gold.

It's basically this: If a democratic president, especially obama, wants certain laws in place then, we will deny and ignore it. If its a republican who's president, then any government laws are okay.

I was in my early 20s when Reagan was elected. I have had a wish for the last 30 years, since that election. And I hoped, with every democratic nominee that this wish would be fulfilled.
This is what I very much wanted when I voted for Obama in 08 and 12. I never told people. I just had this wish.
Today Obama has done what I have been waiting for: The end of Reaganism and the conservative era.

I love American History and have read books that allude to some form of ongoing slavery in the south resulting from things like Chain Gangs, ect.
I don't think in the book they ever dug into whether outright slavery was happening but, there were hints. So, this article does not shock me. It just confirms what I've long suspected.
Everyone knows about company towns where they use to sell the goods and rent beds, ect. to workers of the company only at outrageous prices. then they would keep the workers down by saying they owed hundreds to the employer for food, ect. It was the same kind of system in many ways. And one I'm sure the Koch bros. wet their pants over in fantasies about turning our country into just that.
Of course, the fact that the south could not adjust to the ending of slavery in any way, could not rebuild a new society and one that was better but, chose to defy and cling to the past, only shows why so many in the south today are having a problem with an African American President.
When the tea party says it wants its country back what they mean is the confederacy.

Many of these conservative leaders keep saying that Romney and the gop lost because they weren't conservative enough.
If that was true, then why did the voters turn around and vote for even more liberal politicians?
Their thinking simply makes zero sense.
And this is where the gop runs into trouble. They are so insulated by their own bubble that they fail to see the big picture. What the majority of the American people are feeling and thinking.
The reason the tea party got so huge was they were the bright shiny object on the scene during a lull in the news. Everything was boring after the historic and larger then life election season.
The media went for the Tea Party like crazy. New big story and new shiny object. Interesting with the costumes and the angry old white senior set. the media made the tea party as big as it was and gave it more power then it should have gotten.

Obama has made three picks. I think this is largely a thing of the beltway being bored. while, yes, there could be more diversity, to make this the biggest story and to keep talking about it for over a week tells me the press is bored.
As a woman who grew up during the women's rights eras of the 70s and 80s, I think we need more women in powerful positions. But, Susan Rice was shot down before anyone had a chance to think about her or give her a decent hearing - and the press that is now criticizing - were going along with the gop and even giving strength to the targeting of Rice. Including Mitchell, who has had a problem with this adminstration to begin with.
So, yes, more women and diversity but, I don't buy the media's screecing about it as I think its largely due to boredom and to give the gop something.

After reading comments here about the town being so Football crazy that they have not cooperated in the case, I decided to scan the Stubbenville newspaper.
There was a rally of about 400 people protesting that the case was being covered up and not fully investigated.
To me it seems the big shots in the school and police are the ones Football crazy. However, the average people are not putting Football over justice. they are angry and they want answers. And they seem to be on the side of the poor girl.
So, it is not the whole town. Only a few who are in positions of power.

Just because you had life go well for you doesn't mean others have the same things.
Many do not have families or money. Many have little choices. Some are trying to do right but, never had the guidance or someone helping them to learn.
Just because the woman says happy meal does not mean she does not cook. It's a phrase she is probably using.
Stop being so nose up and looking down on others. Until you walk in her shoes and see what her life is like, just be grateful you had other opportunities and quit being a cold hearted snob

there is deep dispare that I feel for what is happening to people who are not rich in this country. 25 years ago as a young mother of two children, I was lucky to have access to food stamps, welfare and a college education. I also had family that was there to help me when needed. And it was still hard and struggling with get through it all. It was not something that anyone would strive to make a life from.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul as you juggle which bill got paid, if at all, and to pay rent as well. And have money for shoes and coats as well. That is where family was a blessing.
I now see the way people who fall on hard times are treated today and I weep. They are vilified. Politicians play games with the little money those who are suffering depend on to just to feed their children. And for a mother to watch her kids not have food to eat is insufferable. It tears at your heart.
Yet this is what our politicians are doing to people more and more without any compassion or care. Just so long as welfare for corporations and the rich are not touched. Are kept intact for those who don't need it. And those who do are expected to suffer and pay too big a price in exchange. To give up their one thread of survival to pay for the billions being heaped in a pile to the corporate heads and uber rich on top of all the other goodies being given at the expense of the average people.
What has happened to our once caring country. Our once compassionate society?

Alot of white men are being goaded into the victim/resentment emotion and mentality. Instead of teaching men that people of different cultures, religions, ect., and women are good to have as equals, the right wing media has made a fortune in pushing and ginning up the whole 'it's unfair and you need to show them who is boss. As a white man you are entitled and you cannot let those others take that away from you. You need to put those feminazis in their place.'
And this has been going on since the mid 80s with the advent of Rush.
Fox has taken this to new heights, complete with blonde women dressed as eye candy and all heavy makeup, cleavage and legs. Sending the message that this is what women should be. Not too bright or professional. Not too forceful or equal.
The heavy push for guns run amok, no regulation and buy the ultimate in guns, military grade. Then you can be a real man.
With the push on military grade guns as the ultimate symbol of manhood, the rightwing media has pushed, especially in the last several years, this concept of using violence to get your way, shoot them and ask questions later, ect.
You have all this swirling around and couple it with an economy that sees our jobs shipping overseas, only having part time or inadequate jobs left to pay the bills. And while they never say that the pols and corporations have teamed up to destroy the middle class and leave many feeling like failure, the men are told its the immigrants fault, or women or who ever else. And look at all those people living high on the hog collecting welfare while you can't find a decent job.....
Its a powder keg.

Republicans have let spill the underlying reason for turning women into baby makers and deny them their civil rights and equality. A few have cited the oncoming minority status of white people and they are in a panic.
white women want equality and careers and are not interested in making several babies to replenish the almighty white race as they should. So, its up to the rightwing men to look at ways to deny them and to enforce what they see as the reason they are even here: to make babies. Many babies. And keep the white race dominate.
They use religion as the excuse and hide behind it but, in reality it is far more master race bs then anything.

Unions brought you living wages, the 5 day work week, sick pay and vacation time. among other things. Look at your right to work states and you see what is the real story. Low wages that make it impossible to tread water, management abuses towards workers, benefits being taken away.
The real problem is that the wealthy corporations have been sending out propaganda to turn workers against each other while they are being pick pocketed by the same management.
Open your eyes. Fox news is a corporation and tied with the RNC. It's all propaganda. Stop letting yourself be robbed and raped and kept ignorant from the truth. The wealthy declared war on the middle class 30 years ago and they won't stop until we are left with nothing.

ladygeek, as much as your opinion is agreed with, there are instances when a cat can get out. they can go like a flash and you cannot catch them. I know of times when people I know have had a cat get out by accident. They were not being irresponsible. It just happens.
