You mean like the people who started speculating Harry Reid would retire before he ran again in 2010? Or the speculation that he would retire, not just step down, but retire from the Senate, including extensive coverage in this very outlet, for the past four years?

I don't buy Hillman's "It was Kazze's time" Hopefully he just cramped up. I'm also curious as to why Quiqley got more PT than Escobar, overall the offense just didn't get in sync which could be partially due to the time of possession discrepancy. Regardless if the offense and D line plays like this again next week there will be no 3-0 heading into Ann Arbor.

The point isn't in the amount of alumni its the exposure to new tv markets while producing an acceptable athletic product. CSU Long Beach and CSU Fullerton have huge alumni bases but you don't see anyone clamoring for either of them because they potentially have equal numbers of alumni as SDSU or UNLV

That would make sense if the Houston market weren't already covered by the Big 12 network, yea they lose a bit of a foothold by no longer having a team in East Texas but there is no way that A&M leaving kicks them out of the Houston market. For that reason Houston or SMU for that matter don't make much sense.

Given the Houston and Dallas already being covered by the market look at the mid major schools not in Texas that are close geographically.

Tulsa- No way a 3rd OK school gets in.
New Mexico- Possible but is that really a large enough market/base?
Tulane- New Orleans could bring a new market but trying to chip away at the SEC base in the South is like digging with a spoon.
Memphis- Possibly, although its an SEC state Memphis isn't necessarily tied to Knoxville and the rest of the UT base. Academics could be an issue with them as they were with Boise State though.
Arkansas State- No
New Mexico State- See Arkansas State
BYU- If this were a possibility they wouldn't be an independent.
Northern/Southern Illinois- I honestly don't know enough about either school but they just don't seem like legitimate possibilities

Unless I'm missing something SDSU and UNLV seem logical given their decent sized fan bases, exposure to new air waves and acceptable academics and athletics.

I agree with just about everything you said but I don't know that I buy men's track. Conferences change when its not major sports we still play Pac-10 soccer and I don't think this guarantees the addition of any varsity sports.

If they wouldn't add TCU because they're Texas based why would they add Houston? That makes zero sense. We don't make sense geographically but if the Big-12 poked around Boise you've got to think SDSU/UNLV are on the radar with their much larger TV markets.

I got ya and I respect the program and all its history but obviously Green feels this was the right place for him to be. That wasn't our claim to fame, I think last year's sweet 16 squad has to be the claim to fame and Daburns, I started reading on here to track the Green recruitment so chill hater.

Appreciate it, as I mentioned we have a 6'11 transfer from Illinois who should be granted a 6th yr but is still in the appeals process. Outside of that we have one player on the roster eligible for this year above 6'7 and he's a Juco transfer so Green will definitely see the floor. Additionally even if Carwell is granted a 6th yr he's 6'11, 290lbs and won't fit into a lot of the 3 or 4 guard sets I anticipate us using this year.

There's a lot of talent in the backcourt, Tapley is the lone remaining starter but I've always felt he was a bit forgotten. James Rahon started some last year, he's a 6'5 win who's a good fundamentals guy and very good shooter. Jamaal Franklin is a hyper athletic 6'5 wing who got much better as the year went on and should be starting this year. Past that we have a soph PG who was pretty highly recruited but didn't play much and a combo guard transfer from Washington State who I don't know much about but got decent PT as a true frosh there

I've got to think we'll get at least 2 between us, UNLV and New Mexico, considering we had two top 10 teams last year and return most of our back court along with an incoming Pac-12 transfer. If Carlwell is granted a 6th yr, as he should be, we'll hopefully have enough up front to hang with Drew Gordon and handle the rest of the conference. I believe that all 3 schools will be ranked at one point and all 3 have decent out of conference schedules

Wow some ridiculous hating going on here for a kid who made a decision based on his post collegiate professional career which should be refreshing. As an SDSU alum of course I'm happy to add a big especially with the questions surrounding our Illinois transfer Carwell, losing Young to KU at the last minute and our lack of size but lets set a few things straight:

1) Yes IU is a nice campus, good looking women and the like but as far as scene (of both varieties) there is absolutely no comparison.

2) Green will start at SDSU along with a lot of smaller athletic talent (Frankin, Franklin, Rahon, Tapley, Thames) for a team that sold out nearly every game last yr and will sell out every game this season.

3) SDSU (Fisher) must be doing something right to sign our 3rd major transfer of the offseason (Polee, O'Brien, Green).

4) SDSU has one of the best business grad programs in the West, particularly in Sports Management, and from what I've heard the business school was the deciding factor including prof/former NFL coach Denny Green.

5) Utah and BYU are no longer a part of the MWC.

As a native of the inland empire i refuse to take any rating that has CSU San Bernardino ranked in the same percentile much less above SDSU. That's really pretty laughable.

My apologies, I looked at Forbes website assuming they would be current, must be this GWU grad education dumbing me down. But as leadenhall points out...20% comes from RMP? That's awfully scientific there 3 lips.

So if SDSU were so bad academically, ala Boise State, why do we participate in the Pac-12 in a varsity sport? Regardless, I'll take Princetown Review and US News which hold SDSU in much higher esteem anyday.Go Aztecs!
