Think of it as a perfect breeding ground, as Hin mentioned, to hone your skills.

Re: What Do You Shoot With?

I'm split between a Rollei 6008 Integral, Leica M6 and Leica M8.. all do the job

Re: Open Letter to Apple Consumer Relations - Europe

I don't think it's just a Core issue, returning back here after 10 years away, I've seen the same attitude applied to a variety of consumer products.

I liken it to the old sanctions attitude, where obtaining goods imported from overseas was expensive due to the various economic sanctions.

Take photography equipment (well I have to, I'm a photographer). If I wanted to purchase my Leica M8:

UK price (roughly) 2600 quid (R35,000)
SA price (roughly) 3600 quid (R48,000)

It doesn't just end there, even the lower spec'd nikon D90 is out of whack

US price (roughly) 850 US (R7,000
UK price (roughly) 680 quid (R9,000)
SA price (roughly) 1350 quid (18,000)

In most cases, SA consumers are being raped and raped badly. The pricing structure isn't inline with any other pricing structure found around the world. Even taking into import duties (and i'm sorry but SA has the same import duties as many other countries around the world), it still leaves a massive margin for profit for someone up the chain.

Do I support any local business? NO! I refuse to prop up a regime that operates so badly towards the local community.

Now, don't get me started on the price of cars :)
