Having recently gone through a abuse case involving what a trusted, entertaining, charismatic family member did to my husband (now 56 year old) as a teenager, I have learned that there is no stronger denial then the denial people have making it impossible to believe the victim and all to easy to believe the abuser. As a result of this denial, my husband's mother disinherited him and cut off all contact as did most of his family. His abuser attempted to damage his reputation and accused my husband of all sorts of horrible things in court. And we aren't famous or rich...not hard to understand why no one would convict "the King of Pop". There is a silent epidemic in our country going on and no one wants to admit it exists or that your neighbor, friend, family member or cleric could be the cause. The epidemic is Child Sex Abuse and Molestation. A possible solution is just like health care professionals always using "Universal Precautions" with non predudicial judgement with everyone they touch, no matter who, to protect themselves from exposure to life threatening illness...we aslo need to implement "Universal Precautions" with our children.....treat every person our children come contact with, friend or foe, famous or not, as potential carriers of this insidious disease, always error on the side of caution. It is only if we do this can we prevent this epidemic from becoming a pandemic. No amount of money form any court case, no amountof satifiaction on having justice prevail can ever take away what has been done ot an abused child. They can never forget, the can only learn to live with what was done to them.</p>
