President Obama, man up and admit that sending your kids to public school isn't any more dangerous than Governor Christie sending his.

pascal, the administrators who lead most school systems are politicians too. Too many public schools are in trouble. One reason is that there are way too many people trying to grab onto the rudder at the same time who want to turn the "ship" in different directions.

Here's my take. If it were me, or any of you - fine. Point taken.

But, we are talking about the Governor of New Jersey dissing New Jersey's public education. I'm thinking that he should either step up to the plate and start leading on education, or get off the bandwagon down here with the rest of us. Or, he could just "man up" and take the heat about sending his kids to private school.

Here, he's just using his position in a really lame attempt to self-justify poor leadership. Yeah, he's ready for the national political arena (that's sarcasm, in case I was too subtle).

IIRC, the victims were stopped at a red light, wearing helmets, and the officer did not have his siren on.

Cannot remember the last time I have heard a police car working the siren. Lights, yes, but not the siren. LEOs?

edit. According to the Probable Cause, the siren was operating. My bad.

I just wonder if there is something else at fault when you get officers stressing enough to discharge their weapons (off duty) or drinking and driving?

Might be totally unrelated incidents, but sometimes where there is smoke there is fire.

Watch the rank & file in the upcoming weeks. If more incidents occur, then there is a problem with the department that will, like as not, lead right back to the top tiers of management.

There is a lot I could criticize about the IMPD, but this is simply ludricrous. And, for Councilor Oliver to give any credence to it is inexcusable.

Why weren't they charged. OK, I'll play. Because it was a political football. And, it was apparent that at least one policeman had crossed a line. Which, I notice the Reverend, ,et al, had no difficulty in condemning without due process, btw.

I think a witness seeing one young man attempting to kick in a door justification for an arrest, and likely charges. Police were called, after all, and I wonder how often that happens in certain parts of the City? Little trust in the police, or the Prosecutor's office.

I know this answer sounds off-the-cuff, but I don't have time to present a fact-filled, deeply-reasoned argument just now.

I really don't know what anyone really expected around here? The City is run not by those with vision, but by those with a blinkered view set before them by a minority of self-vested interests.

Real vision exists in this town, but it is ignored, dismissed and/or belittled at almost every turn.

Those in charge, from either side of the political fence, are more interested in acquiring wealth and influence at the taxpayers' expense than they are in improving Indianapolis. If the two dovetail, fine, but if not, then let self-interest rule!

Sigh. Tough when the easy stuff seems so hard to grasp.

I should have been really surprised had the numbers remained flat or decreased after moving the test to Spring. After all, the kids have been in "learning/testing" mode since August, instead of being in "zone out in summer" mode.

Any other conclusions are based upon baseless conjecture.

And who is the "Education establishment" anyway? I don't know a teacher who didn't prefer that the test be in the Spring.

I have to agree that it is NOT the "duty" of an American serviceperson to die for their country. That's just plain wrong-headed. The Armed Services don't sign recruits up with the intent to let them go out and get killed.

I disagree that "duty" equals conscription. The draft was started to require service, not pander to some ideal.

Joining the Armed Services doesn't require "courage", it requires a commitment to country, and a desire to improve both the recruit and the country at the same time. The Armed Services indeed may not be your cup of tea, but it isn't courage (or a lack thereof) keeping you out.

You may not choose to support Mr. Rokita in November (I doubt I will, in fact), but it is due to politics, and not some ethereal concept you really don't seem to understand very well.
