You Win this Round! (Counting Crows)

I honestly can't remember the last time Musikfest had a headlining band that I gave a shit about. This will be a welcome change to my usual stumbling around Bethlehem drunk and trying to convince myself that I can look cool dancing to Native American pan-flute music.

Re: Father of the Year Award Goes to….

Oh shit, I realized that address is near where my two friends live. Sure enough I check and it did indeed happen in and just outside of their apartment building. My one friend actually got in the middle and broke up the fight! The woman was apparently telling my friend to kick the guy's ass while the wife beater screamed back at her to go to rehab.

I love Easton and living in Easton, but the fucking West Ward is an embarrassment.

Re: Easton's CENTRE Square Totally Not Couth

Downtown Easton is a block by block battle as far as where is safe. The Circle has a lot of great stuff around it, like a lot of nice restaurants, couple decent bars, entertainment venues, etc.

Unfortunately a lot of the high school drop-outs rise from their hovels on Ferry st. and make it down to the Circle with the false belief that maybe they too can enjoy a civilized night of fun without committing a felony.

As bad as it seems, it use to be much worse downtown (I would know, I grew up there). The only thing holding the downtown revitalization back...are the people who live there.

Re: Restaurant: "Gratuity Include in Check." Students: Not If You Suck at Waitering

Best tip I ever left a shitty waitress was two pennies.

Though with her limited vocabulary and social skills, I have a feeling the meaning was lost on her.

Re: Woman Totally Discriminated Against at the YMCA

I worked at the YMCA for several years, including the time line the article describes. Not sure if I remember her off the top of my head, but I'm sure the other dozen or so black employees at the YMCA in Easton would probably disagree.

That particular Y is an incredibly multicultural one in all aspects. More than likely she caused a lot of drama, didn't do her job, and now feels some sort of slacker entitlement rather than confront the reality that she was probably fired for just reasons.

Re: Does the Mayor of Hope Township Have Too Much Time on His Hands, or is it Just Me?

$71,000 for $75 worth of asphalt and two days labor, tops. This kind of money management makes MC Hammer look like a Jewish accountant.

Re: Boys Huff and Puff Their Way To Car Wreck

It's a shame we almost lost these future brain surgeons. I wonder how many more of their friends are going to flame you. Their grasp of the law is almost as firm as their grasp on grammar. It honestly can only get funnier from here.

Re: Upper Macungie Teen Goes Drunk Driving Nutso

While I thought the "don't read" was a personal highlight in the ongoing story of Mr. Weston, I do quite enjoy that there are obvious pictures of underage drinking still on his page, open for all the public to see.

If we're lucky, he'll send himself through a windshield the next time we have to read about him.

Re: Easton District Board Member's Daughter Wants to Teach but Can't be Bothered with Getting Certified

I attended the Easton Area SD during my entire public school career, graduating within the last decade or so. In the last few years, I've graduated from college as a CERTIFIED teacher. It was no simple task and required a lot of hard work and investment of time and money on my side, but I have my Pennsylvania teaching license (and applying for my Nj one currently).

What I've learn with trying to get a job at Easton is that the district is entirely unique in the Lehigh Valley. All other districts I've applied to require some sort of nepotism waiver to be signed, stating you are not related to an administrator or board member. Easton on the other hand is nigh impossible to get into without being related to or close to someone.

This is far from the first time that Easton has been caught hiring a relative of a board member who isn't certified over many other applicants that have certification and outstanding marks. It is very dissuading for myself and my friends who also have their certifications and are looking for work.

While in college I considered working at my Alma Mater a dream and a goal to strive for. Now I question the ethical ramifications of being employed by a corrupt bureaucracy like the EASB.

The fact that this girl (she's acting like a child and will be referred to as such) is not only biting the hand that feeds her, but doing so after getting a golden fucking ticket AND not spending her time getting a certification is ludicrous.

If you live in Easton, I highly encourage participation in school board elections in an attempt to help rectify this embarrassing circus.
