From what I remember at Nokia World, I think the C7 doesn't have the new CBD display... That's limited to the C6 and E7 for now.

Would I use a Nokia Android handset? Yes. It has a few niggles but I quite like my Galaxy S and if Nokia can give me something better, I'd love it.

That being said, how long do you think would it take Nokia to churn out a Android device if they today decide they want to make one? I'm not talking about just porting the stuff over, but complete optimisation as well; assuming they are not designing the device from a scratch. Add to that a new UI layer to at least preserve some kind of Nokia branding or they shouldn't bother with that as well?

Plus, right now the devs think that if they don't do Qt, they're not targeting Nokia at all. But with just 1 Android device (that'll probably even do well) they'll feel that they have a footprint in Nokia too. The moment that happens the momentum that Nokia's building for Qt dies. Once that happens, all their other devices suffer.

They've just made a bunch of money off Android, at the cost of the majority of their Symbian/MeeGo devices.

But that's great marketing for Nokia at the same time. Now that there has been such a huge rebuttal at so many places, Nokia actually comes out as a victim of foul play and the damage is averted to an extent. Anyone who reads it or searches for it now, also sees the rebuttals & thus forms a more accurate picture.

Everything said and done, this whole controversy has given the N8 so much hype that even if Nokia tried to create such a buzz they won't have been able to and Luckily for Nokia, a few sane people had at least a little play with the N8 to come out an opinion of their own. Otherwise, this would have been one huge mess.

In a perfect world, I completely agree. But what happens when posts like the Engadget camera review and the Gizmodo usability test happen. Where do the rebuttals come from? Who gives an accurate description of the true picture?

The people who can, don't have the devices to do so.

I would certainly have loved to see Nokia send out review units across the globe at the same time. More often than not, the first impression is the last impression and a lot of people now believe that the iPhone 4's camera is pretty similar to the N8's, so the camera is no longer a big deal.

For Nokia, the camera is probably the only big deal. Yes, there's Symbian^3, faster hardware and the lot but people will buy the N8 for the camera and then experience the improvements. No one will buy it for Symbian, at least the way the perception is right now.

The box that comes with the device clearly mentions the place of manufacture. The official Nokia's sold in India are mostly made in china and the above series doesn't even mention China!

I personally *love* the gallery button and it pains me knowing that future Nseries devices that I buy won't have it.

As far as accidental presses go, simply locking the keypad is enough. Moreover when kept in the pocket the chances of it getting pressed are far lesser that any other key owing to its location.

Plus, since its on the bottom half, I rarely, if at all, hold the phone tightly in that position. I might use this app, not to disable it, but to create one if it were possible! :)
